
Men’s golf shooting for PSAC Championship

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Millersville men's golf team is looking to come out on top at this weekend's PSAC Championships. The tournament will be held at the Hershey Country Club's East Course. It is a three-round tournament beginning on Friday, Oct. 18 and finishing on Sunday, Oct. 20.
Millersville has won four conference championships with the most recent coming in 2013 when Connor Gilbert shot 1-under 143 in 36 holes and claimed the individual title.
The Marauders placed fifth in last year's tournament with a three-day total of 930. West Chester ended Indiana's two-year win streak finishing just three strokes under the Crimson Hawks for a three-round total of 918 and the team title. The Golden Rams' Chris Warner claimed the individual title in 2018 carding a 226 (+13) in three rounds.
12 schools are set to participate in the tournament. Joining Millersville is Cal U, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Gannon, IUP, Kutztown, Mercyhurst, Pitt-Johnstown, Seton Hill, Shepherd and West Chester.
Gannon leads the PSAC in the Golf Stat rankings with IUP coming in close behind the Golden Knights. Millersville comes in third among the PSAC teams ahead of both West Chester and Mercyhurst.
The Marauders have recorded two team wins so far this season, claiming first place at both the Elizabethtown Invitational and the Alvernia Fall Invitational.
Millersville carded a 302 at the Elizabethtown Invitational, playing on the East Course at Hershey Country Club. All six golfers from Millersville finished in the top 25 of the 73-person playing field. The Marauders carded a 302 again at the Alvernia Fall Invitational played at the Ledgerock Golf Club. Four golfers placed within the top 10. The Marauders finished just one spot behind West Chester at the Hal Hansen Invitational this fall. Millersville came in ahead of Mercyhurst, IUP, Clarion, and Pitt-Johnstown. Millersville tied with the Golden Rams after the first round shooting a 294, but trailed in the second carding a 303 for a two-round total of 597.
Millersville topped West Chester by four strokes at the Glade Springs Intercollegiate, but finished behind Gannon which took home the tournament title. The Marauders earned a team score of 909 to also top Cal U, Mercyhurst and Clarion. Mercyhurst came out on top at their home course during the Mercyhurst Invitational, but the Marauders prevailed against West Chester Cal U, Clarion and Pitt Johnstown once again.
Millersville's lineup for the PSAC Championships includes seniors John Devic, Brady Erb and Matt Spak, as well as junior Ronnie Yanoski, sophomore Christopher Knox and freshman Austin Lauver.
Devic has participated in four tournaments this season shooting an average 77.83. He tied for eighth at the Alvernia Invitational where he carded a 76--a season-low for the senior. Erb has participated in all five events this fall shooting an average 76.0. Erb recorded a career-best 1-under 71 at the Alvernia Invitational where he took second place overall. Spak has played in all five tournaments so far shooting an average of 74.11. He tied for first at the Glade Springs Intercollegiate Championship, falling in a playoff. He shot 75-70-73 for a three-round total of 218, the lowest 54-hole score of his career. The 2-under 70 marks his career best 18-hole score.
Yanoski has shot an average 76.89 in five events. He came in ninth place overall at the Hal Hansen Invitational where he carded 70-79 for a two-round score of 149, a new 36-hole career low. The 2-under 70 marks his career-best 18-hole score. Knox has competed in all five tournaments shooting an average of 77.33. He finished in third place at the Alvernia Fall Invitational carding a 72 in the single round, his lowest career 18-hole score. He also saw a career-low 153 in 36 holes at the Hal Hansen Invitational. Lauver has played in five tournaments, shooting an average of 80.56. He saw his lowest finish at the Hal Hansen Invitational where he came in eighth place. He carded a 71-77 for a season-low 148.
