CHAMPIONSHIP OUTLOOK
• Millersville is sending a record 22 athletes to this season's PSAC Indoor Championships, held at the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome in Edinboro, Pa. Last season, the Marauders sent 19 in nine events and placed 12th out of 15. Millersville athletes will account for 28 individual event entries, and Marauders own 13 top-10 seeds entering this season's championships. Millersville could score big early as Saturday's competition starts with the weight throw at 11 a.m. Millersville's Sunflower Greene is the prohibitive favorite to win while sophomore Madison Martin and senior Amanda Myers are well within range of scoring.
HISTORY
• Millersville started indoor competition at the PSAC Championships in 2002 and since the league expanded to 14 teams in 2010, Millersville's best finish came in 2014 and 2015 in sixth place. The most points ever totaled by the Marauders were 63 in a 6th/12 finish in 2008. Millersville has two athletes with past All-PSAC (top three) performances: Erin Harman (pole vault) and Greene (shot put). Harman is a two-time All-PSAC performer, having placed third in 2016 and second in 2015.
• Either Shippensburg or Slippery Rock has won every championship dating back to 2007. Kutztown owns three championships and Lock Haven won the first two in 2002 and 2003.
• Just three Marauders ever have won individual events at the indoor championships. Beth Lord was the first, winning the weight throw in 2002, but no Marauder thrower has taken an individual title since. Priscilla Jennings won the 800-meter run in 2007 and the mile in 2008. Kiara Allen won the 2016 60-meter dash.
EVENT BREAKDOWN
• After a breakout outdoor season in 2017, Sunflower Greene has dominated during the 2017-18 indoor season. She has set PSAC records in both the shot put and weight throw and owns an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the shot put and a provisional mark in the weight throw. As a sophomore at the 2017 indoor championships Greene placed third in the shot and sixth in the weight throw. As a freshman, she took seventh in the shot put. Greene heads into the 2018 championships with a conference-best shot put mark of 51-9 3/4, which is a full four feet better than Edinboro's Gabby Schultz's best. Shultz won the title in 2016. Greene's 63-6 1/4 in the weight throw is also No. 1, while Paige Shirk of Shippensburg ranks second at 58-10. No Marauder has ever won two events at the same indoor championships, no PSAC thrower has ever won both championship events.
• Millersville is loaded in the throws. Greene is the headliner, but Madison Martin ranks fourth in the weight throw (52-2 3/4) and looks like a scorer in that event. To crack All-PSAC territory, she'll likely need a career-best throw as Shultz is third with a throw of 53-5. She took seventh in the event as a freshman. Also in the weight throw, Myers is 10th with a season-best toss of 48-4 1/2. Myers' best, however, is a full two feet out of the No. 8 spot. Also qualifying in the weight throw is Stephanie Garner (15th/46-11) and Aliyah Striver (17th/46-8).
• Along with Greene, Striver (15th/39-0 1/2), Martin (24th/36-8 1/2) and Garner (26th/34-3 1/2) have also qualified in the shot put.
• Arianna Camel is a contender for All-PSAC status in the pentathlon and the 60-meter hurdles. Camel redshirted during the 2017 season, but qualified for the championships in the 60 hurdles and placed eighth in 2016, took 10th in 2015 and placed fourth as a freshman in 2014. This season, Camel's best 60-meter hurdle time is 8.97 and she comes in seeded fifth. Shippensburg's Danielle Sciremammano is the No. 1 seed with a time of 8.65. Camel's pentathlon best of 3,030 came on Jan. 26 at Bucknell, and that total has her seeded third. Shippensburg's Kali Dawson and Aspen Gaita are both NCAA provisional qualifiers in the event. Camel placed seventh in the pentathlon at the 2016 indoor championships. Camel is also entered to compete in the high jump.
• Madie Tropp has also qualified for the pentathlon for the third time in her career. Her season-best total of 2,687 has her seeded 12th. She is also making her second appearance in the 60-meter hurdles. She heads to the event seeded 16th with a time of 9.59.
• Millersville produced six PSAC qualifiers in the 60-meter dash--more than any other program. Five of those athletes will compete this weekend. Courtney Ingold is Millersville's No. 1 seed, seeded ninth overall in the conference with a time of 7.88. Ingold is just .01 out of the No. 8 spot. It is Ingold's third time at the championships in the 60. She has finished 15th twice. It is the first championship appearance in the 60 for Destinee Holloman (12th/7.95), Emonie Reviere (16th/7.99) and Kay Liebl (28th/8.12). Brianna Doherty (25th/8.04) qualified as a freshman in 2017 and placed 21st with a time of 8.03.
• Clara Forney qualified in the 60 but will focus on the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Reviere and Ingold are also qualified in the 200-meter dash. Forney surprised last season with a sixth-place finish at the championships, and she is seeded sixth again this season with a season-best time of 25.70. Reviere's 25.75 is ranked seventh in the league. Ingold's 25.89 is ninth. She placed 14th in the event last season and 18th in 2016. No other team has three athletes ranked in the top 10 in the 200.
• Forney also gives the Marauders a chance to score in the 400-meter dash. She is seeded fifth after posting a 58.65 on Dec. 2. Freshman Lenaiya Flowers makes her indoor championships debut and owns the ninth-fastest time of athletes at the championships at 59.30.
• Forney, Flowers, Ingold and Aniya Gibbs comprise Millersville's 4x400-meter relay team, which is seeded seventh with a time of 4:01.94. Gibbs is also a member of the fourth-seeded 4x800-meter team. A trio of freshmen--Brianna Laliberte, Yoangelys Rijo-Cedeno and Emily Black--round out the group.
• In addition to the sprinting events, Doherty has a chance to score in the long jump. Her season-best 18-0 1/4--posted just two weeks ago--is good for seventh in the PSAC. Liebl is seeded 12th with a jump of 17-4 3/4. Doherty took 12th at both the indoor and outdoor championships last season. Liebl placed 15th in the outdoor season after taking 17th indoor. Holloman, seeded 17th, gives Millersville a trio of athletes in the event.
• Erin Harman and Erin Winters will represent Millersville in the pole vault. Harman is looking for a fourth scoring performance and enters the championships as the No. 8 seed after clearing a school-record 11-8 1/2 on Jan. 26. Winters ranks 14th after hitting 10-11 3/4.
