Â
THE MATCH-UP
• After scoring a rain-soaked, 11-10 victory over East Stroudsburg, the Marauders hit the road Saturday for a 12 p.m. kickoff at Lock Haven. Both teams enter the game with 1-4 records. Millersville is looking for a second-consecutive win while ESU went on the road to Texas and lost to the reigning national champions, Texas A&M Commerce, last week. Both teams own wins over East Stroudsburg. While Millersville held the Warriors to 10 points in week five, Lock Haven won 44-41 at East Stroudsburg in week four.Â
• Millersville's four losses came against teams with a combined 16-4 record. Lock Haven has also played a challenging schedule with three of its losses coming against Division II teams with a combined 12-3 record, and the week one loss came against FCS member Duquesne (3-2).Â
• Millersville's scoring defense total is skewed because of four pick sixes surrendered by the offense. Without those four touchdowns, the defense is giving up 29 points per game--a total which would rank 10th in the league. A truer representation of Millersville's defensive capabilities is in total defense where the Marauders rank fourth in the PSAC and allow just 330.2 yards per game. The Marauders are also allowing just 5.1 yards per play. While Millersville ranks 14th in the league against the run, it held East Stroudsburg's Jaymar Anderson to more than 60 yards under his average and to 3.7 yards per carry in the week five win. Anderson is still the PSAC's leading rusher by more than 20 yards per game.Â
• Millersville also ranks No. 1 in the PSAC and 14th in Division II in passing defense, allowing 152.6 yards per game--46.4 yards fewer than second-ranked Edinboro. Teams have a 49.6 completion percentage, which ranks third in the PSAC, and the 6.2 yards per completion is second best.Â
• The first to 20 points could be the winner Saturday. Millersville comes in averaging 10.8 points per game, ranking last in the PSAC. Lock Haven is averaging 17.6 and has topped 21 points just once. Millersville's season-high in points is 16.Â
• Lock Haven presents a balanced offense, rushing for 147.2 yards per game while passing for 159.0. Chantz Swartz and Ralph Hyland rank 13th and 14th in the PSAC in rushing average respectively. Both players have rushed for touchdowns and are averaging 4.3 yards per carry or better.Â
• Lock Haven has already employed three different starting quarterbacks. Cameron Tobias has played in four games and became the starter against East Stroudsburg. He has since completed 40 of 69 passes and averaged 224 yards per game, throwing three touchdowns to one pick.Â
• While Millersville ranks last in Division II in sacks allowed, it surrendered a season-low two against ESU. Lock Haven's defense has totaled six sacks, which is tied for fewest in the PSAC.Â
• Millersville came back from a 10-0 deficit last Thursday against East Stroudsburg. The Marauders have been outscored 79-3 in the first quarter, and four consecutive opponents have scored on the opening drive.Â

THE LAST MEETING (Millersville 34, Lock Haven 21, Oct. 14, 2017)
• Millersville raced to a 24-0 halftime lead and rolled to a 34-21 win. Millersville out-gained Lock Haven 253-100 in the first half and held Lock Haven to just three passing yards in the first 30 minutes.Â

Tommy Halloway totaled 1 1/2 sacks.Â
FLAGS NOT FLYING
• Millersville has been flagged for penalties just 31 times for 268 yards (53.6 per game). That is the second-fewest penalties and second-fewest penalty yards per game in the PSAC. Only IUP with 26 penalties and 51.6 yards per game ranks better. Only five teams in the league have committed fewer than 40 penalties.Â
BRING BACK THE SACK
• Millersville did not record a sack in the first three games but has totaled six in the last two including four against West Chester and two against East Stroudsburg.
Tommy Halloway has recorded sacks in each of the last two weeks.Â
• Halloway led the 2017 team with six sacks and he now has 10 in his career.Â
• Against West Chester,
Zac Button recorded two.Â
Tykeem Dixon's sack was the first of his career, as was Button's two sacks. Against ESU,
Morgan Faughnan recorded his first sack of the season.Â
DUAL THREAT
•
Tony Staffieri made his first start of the season last week against East Stroudsburg and helped the offense to a season-high in yards gained. Staffieri made two starts as a redshirt freshman in 2016 and was limited to six starts in 2017 because of an injury. When he has played, he has produced. In the eight starts in which he played the full game, Staffieri has totaled 484 rushing yards (60.5 per game) and six rushing touchdowns to go with 1,695 passing yards (211.8 per game), a .560 completion percentage and 12 touchdown passes to six interceptions. Staffieri has thrown for 240 or more yards in half of those starts and owns two 100-yard rushing games. He has at least one 10-yard rush in each of his starts.Â
TAKE IT AWAY
• Millersville intercepted three passes against East Stroudsburg and have five in the last four games.
Ray Lopez made his first career INT against West Chester and has one in each of the last two games. Marchel Mingo's INT against East Stroudsburg was the first of his career.Â
ZAC ATTACK
•Â
Zac Button played in 21 games at Lock Haven before transferring to Millersville, and in his five games as a Marauder, he has recorded his first career interception (at IUP) and his first career sack (at West Chester). Button has recorded a tackle for loss in four of the five games including four TFL against West Chester. He has also forced a fumble and broke up a team-high three passes. Button recorded a career-high nine tackles in the opener against Pace.Â
CATCHING ONÂ
• Redshirt freshman
Chris Dolan continued to be the Marauders' top target in week five, leading the team with 70 receiving yards. In week four against West Chester, he led the team with five catches and a touchdown. In weeks two and three, he totaled 19 receptions against top PSAC West competition (Slippery Rock and IUP). At IUP, Dolan made 10 catches for 137, becoming the first Millersville freshman since 2014 with 100 yards receiving. Both marks were career highs, and his yardage total was the most by a Marauder since
Kevin Wiggins totaled 144 yards on Oct. 8, 2016. Dolan also made his first career touchdown catch. Against The Rock, Dolan totaled nine catches for 97 yards, giving him the highest back-to-back reception total by a Marauder since Andy Neupauer's 21 catches against Bloomsburg (9) and Slippery Rock (12) in weeks six and seven of 2003.Â
• Dolan ranks 11th in the PSAC with 29 catches, averaging 5.8 per game.Â
SAFETY STOPPER
•
Trejon Dinkins has made double-digit tackles in four of the team's five games, ranking him first in the PSAC and tied for 32nd nationally in tackles per game. His 12 in week one against Pace were the most by any player in the PSAC that week, and he matched that total in week two. He added 10 tackles in week three and week five.Â
ACTIVE UP FRONTÂ
• Defensive tackle
Lucas Bush is a first-year starter but he has been in the thick of the action, averaging 7.6 tackles per game, which ranks 12th in the PSAC. He has more tackles than any other defensive lineman in the league.
• Bush made a career-high 12 stops and a half-tackle for loss against Slippery Rock. In 2017, Bush totaled seven tackles in five games played.Â
TWO SPORTS, NO PROBLEM
•
Evan Morrill continues to make an impact on the football field, starting every game at wide receiver and serving as the team's long snapper. Morrill has caught a pass in 12 consecutive games dating back to last season, and his four against IUP and West Chester were the second-most of his career. Â
• Morrill is also the starting 184-pounder for the Millersville wrestling team. Morrill went 13-13 with an 8-5 dual meet record in 2017-18. He won two matches at the NCAA Super Region 1 Championships as well.Â
CAPTAINS
• Millersville's players voted seniors
Brett Harris and
Trejon Dinkins and junior
Tommy Halloway as the team's captains for 2018. Dinkins in his second season with the Marauders. Harris is the team's second-most experienced offensive player with 25 starts. Halloway is just the 11th junior since 1956 to earn a captaincy.
GOING FOR 44
•
Morgan Faughnan has been the model of consistency for the Marauders. He has started 38 consecutive games--every game the Marauders have played over the last three-plus years. Faughnan entered the season No. 2 in the PSAC in consecutive starts, trailing only Alec Petrillo of Shippensburg, who started the season with 34. Only three players in the entire league had consecutive start streaks of 30 games or more. In 2017, he set career highs with 48 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and 4 1/2 tackles for loss. He has made 11 tackles through three games in 2018.Â
TWO-WAY PLAYER
•
Joey Farley's PSAC-best streak of six consecutive field goals made came to an end when his attempt at IUP was blocked, but he bounced back against Slippery Rock by hitting a 21-yard field goal. On the season, Farley is 4 of 6 and his only two misses have been blocked. He has connected on nine of his last 11 tries dating back to last season. He is also a perfect 38 for 38 in PAT attempts in his career.
• Farley, however, is not just a kicker. Farley led the team with six catches and 62 yards receiving in week one. In week three against Slippery Rock, he made the longest catch of his career (43 yards) and scored his first career touchdown.Â
• Farley was named PSAC East Special Teams Athlete of the Week once in 2017.Â
NEW LEADERSHIP
• Millersville's staff is almost entirely brand new.
J.C. Morgan was named Millersville's head coach on April 30. Morgan hired eight new assistant coaches, with only Millersville alum and defensive coordinator
Matt Sutjak returning from last year's staff. Morgan is the 22nd head coach in the 123-year history of Millersville football. Of that long list, only John Pucillo (1925-29, 33-36), George Katchmer (1954-69) and Dr. Gene Carpenter (1970-2000) coached for more than five seasons. The last time a Millersville first-year head coach posted a winning record in his first season was John Pucillo in 1933, going 4-2.
• Unlike Millersville's previous three head coaches, Morgan is coming to Millersville from another Division II program, and a PSAC program at that. Morgan started at Shippensburg in 2005 and spent the last three as offensive coordinator. Morgan's staff is loaded with PSAC experience. Both coordinators--Sutjak and
Jeff Tomasetti--played and coached in the league. Special teams coordinator
Dan Beard and tight ends coach
Ron Kerr also coached at Shippensburg.
Tim Tobin was the defensive line coach for a PSAC Championship at Kutztown. Running backs coach
Chris Palubinsky was the starting quarterback at Bloomsburg just last season.
