Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville University women's tennis team fell to UDC 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon on the McComsey Tennis Courts. Kelsey Heckert and Victoria Hanus recorded the team's lone win in the match at flight three doubles.
The Marauders fall to 2-3.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Kelsey Heckert and Victoria Hanus won their doubles match, 6-4. Unfortunately, Millersville dropped its' other two doubles matches and did not receive the decision.
• Hanus put up a strong fight in her flight four singles match, but ultimately fell 6-1, 6-3.
• Sophie May lost a well-fought flight six singles match, 6-3, 6-2.
COACH MATT HELSEL QUOTES
• "We played a very tough team without our best player in singles. That makes life more difficult, but our players battled well and it will become one more lesson on our journey."
• "Heckert and Hanus were a huge bright spot today. They dictated that doubles match and stayed close when things were tough and then took advantage when the opportunity arose. They're becoming a pretty nice doubles team."
• "I'm waiting for a couple players to break out in singles. We have talent, but do they believe in themselves enough? We're close but not quite there yet. I know we've got another gear in there though."
NOTES
• Katina Jones had to leave her singles match and thus everyone was playing up from their usual spots.
• This was the first ever loss the Marauders have suffered against the Firebirds.
• UDC improves to 5-1 on its season.
UP NEXT
• Millersville next travels to California (Pa.) for its first road match of the season on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. This will be the first matchup between the two teams since the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.
