
Jones wins two matches in season opening tournament

Amherst, N.Y. – Junior Katina Jones kicked off the Millersville women's tennis team's season opener with a win in the first round to advance her to the quarterfinal round in the Daemen Tournament.
All matches this weekend were grouped in seven draws for the singles play. Singles draws were color coded as followed: red (No. 1), orange (No. 2), yellow, (No. 3), green (No. 4), blue (No. 5), indigo (No. 6). Doubles draws were grouped by Wimbledon, U.S. Open, French and Aussie.
Jones defeated Daemen's Lorissa Yuen; 6-1, 6-0 to move into the second round. In the second round, Colgate's Lauren Hyland eliminated Jones.
Three freshmen--Corinne Grohoski, Megan Rovenolt and Lauren Weaver--had their first match of their college careers on Friday, but all three lost.
Millersville went 0-for-4 in the doubles competition.
The Marauders begin head-to-head match-ups at home against Elizabethtown University on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 12 p.m.
