Toronto, Ontario - Tim Mayza, who pitched for Millersville University from 2011-2013, is officially in the big leagues. On Monday, Mayza was promoted from the Triple A Buffalo Bisons to the Toronto Blue Jays.
With the promotion, Mayza becomes the first Marauder to reach Major League Baseball since Jim Todd's six-year run ended in 1979. Mayza and Todd are the only Marauders to receive the call to the MLB level.
Mayza, now 25, left Millersville after a 2013 junior season in which he went 11-3 with a 1.55 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 98 2/3 innings. He was selected in the 12th round by the Blue Jays. Mayza went 21-9 with a 2.98 ERA as a Marauder. He started game three of Millersville's 2011 NCAA Championship Tournament appearance as a true freshman.
Mayza started 2017 in Double A New Hampshire and was promoted to Triple A in July. Mayza dominated with the Bisons, posting a 0.93 ERA and .216 batting average against, striking out 16 in 19 1/3 innings of relief work. Mayza surrendered just two earned runs in those appearances and had tossed 11 consecutive innings without allowing a run.
The left-handed Mayza joins a Blue Jays team that is 56-60 but just 4.0 games out of the Wild Card.
