MILLERSVILLE MARAUDERS Roster | Schedule | Times/Results Millersville Entry List 2016 Finish: 3rd/16 Millersville's PSAC Championship History Returning All-PSAC Performers Sunflower Greene (shot put/3rd, hammer (2nd)) |
CHAMPIONSHIPS OUTLOOK
• Millersville enters the 2017 PSAC Outdoor Championships with 26 individual entries and a pair of relay teams set to compete. The Marauders have finished third at each of the last three outdoor championships. The heptathlon begins Thursday, and throwing events and track prelims begin Friday afternoon.
• Last season Millersville totaled 98 points for the highest scoring total since 1996. But the outdoor championships MVP, Erin Madison, who won the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles, as well as 100-meter champ, Kiara Allen, graduated after 2016. Last season's runner-up in the heptathlon, Arianna Camel, is redshirting this season. Now, the strength of Millersville's team is in the field events, especially with the throwers.
• Sunflower Greene, the reigning PSAC Outdoor Freshman of the Year, is in position to contend in three events after scoring in the shot put, discus and hammer as a freshman. Greene was All-PSAC in the shot put at the indoor championships this season. Greene enters the championships seeded No. 1 in the shot put after setting a PSAC record at 49-2 1/2 at the Millersville Metrics on April 1. Greene is the heavy favorite in the hammer throw, entering with a season-best throw of 183-9, which is well clear of the No. 2 mark held by Tamara Ovejera of Shippensburg (168-3). Ovejera is also Greene's top competition in the shot put. She enters the event with a season-best throw of 47-11. Ovejera is the No. 1 seed in the discus while Greene comes in seeded third.
• The depth of Millersville's throws group is impressive. Sophomore Deja Loose looks to contend for All-PSAC status in the hammer throw. She enters the championships ranked No. 3 with a season-best mark of 168-0. Loose may also give the Marauders points in the shot put as she comes in ranked 14th.
• Freshman Madison Martin qualified in three events. She is seeded fifth in the discus (132-6), ninth in the hammer (144-0), and 22nd in the shot put. Stephanie Garner also qualified in the shot put and hammer.
• Junior Amanda Myers is looking to break through for a championship in the javelin after finishing sixth as a freshman and fourth as junior. Her top throw this season of 153-9 has her positioned No. 2, only slightly behind Shippensburg's Crystal Hartman's 156-2.
• Freshman Brianna Doherty broke a school record in the long jump that had stood since 1989. Doherty's 18-10 3/4 places her seventh, and she will need something close to a repeat performance to crack the top eight.
• Erin Harman, who just last weekend set a new school record at 11-9 3/4, looks to bounce back after a disappointing 17th-place finish at last season's championships. Harman finished fourth in the event as a freshman in 2015, and she has been a top-eight finisher three times at the indoor championships. She comes into weekend tied for sixth.
• Millersville qualified four runners in the 100-meter dash, and the best chance for points comes from Courtney Ingold (12.53) and Clara Forney (12.55), who are seeded 17th and 19th respectively. Forney placed sixth in the 200-meter dash at this year's indoor championships. The top time this season is held by Slippery Rock's Emily Horstman at 11.96, and the No. 8 runner is at 12.34.
• Ingold (13th) and Forney (14th) are also contenders for points in the 200-meter dash. Both runners are less than a half-second behind the No. 8 time of 25.34. Emonie Reviere will also compete in the 200.
• Aniya Gibbs is Millersville's lone entry in the 400-meter dash and enters as the 12th seed. Her 59.20 is less than a second behind the No. 8 time this season. Gibbs was an All-PSAC performer in the 400 at the 2014-15 indoor championships.
• Madie Tropp qualified in the 100-meter hurdles and will also compete in the heptathlon. Tropp's 15.32 100 hurdles time is 12th-best in the league. She is 13th in the heptathlon after posting a PR of 3.697 points earlier this season.
• Millersville's depth in the sprints should help in the relays as the 4x100-meter team is seeded seventh with a season-best time of 48.51. The team will be comprised of Doherty, Forney, Ingold and either Reviere or Kay Liebl. The 4x400-meter relay team is also seeded seventh with Gibbs, Forney, Ingold and Liebl or Reviere set to run.
