Shippensburg, Pennsylvania - Junior Erin Harman set a new school outdoor record in the pole vault at 11-9 3/4 and freshman Brianna Doherty smashed a long-standing Millersville record while setting a NCAA Championships provisional qualifying distance of 18-10 3/4 in the long jump Saturday at the Paul Kaiser Invitational.
Harman's new school record topped her own, which was set as a freshman in 2015. She bested her previous mark by more than three inches. She missed a NCAA provisional qualifying mark by just 1/4 inch. She placed third in Saturday's event.
Doherty's mark of 18-10 3/4 placed her fifth in Saturday's event, but it surpassed hall of famer Carol Forry's Millersville record of 18-3 3/4, which had stood since 1989. Entering the event, Doherty's previous best was 17-3 1/4.
It was a strong day for Doherty, who also ran a season-best time the 100-meter dash, hitting 12.74 and qualifying for the PSAC Championships. She also ran with two relay teams.
Clara Forney ran a season-best time of 25.81 in the 200-meter dash, finishing in sixth place. Emonie Reviere also qualified for the PSAC Championships with a time of 26.03.
Doherty, Forney and Reviere teamed with Courtney Ingold to place third in the 4x100-meter dash with a time of 48.85. Forney, Kay Liebl, Autumn Lewis and Aniya Gibbs posted a season-best 4x400-meter relay time of 3:54.62 and placed third.
Sunflower Greene competed only in the discus and hit a season-best mark of 141-2. She placed second in the event while teammate Madison Martin took fourth (126-7). Martin placed sixth in the hammer (142-10) with Amanda Myers placing fifth (148-5). Myers did not compete in her marquee event: the javelin.
