Tournament Information PSAC Tournament Central Date: Oct. 21-22, 2017 Location: Hershey Country Club East Course, Hershey, Pa. PSAC Championship History |
• Millersville heads into the 2017 PSAC Championship with a young team featuring two freshmen in the starting lineup.
• Millersville is coming off a victory in the Eastern Fall Invitational. Junior Danielle Greene shot a 12-over 82 to secure the medalist honor. Greene was a freshman when the Marauders won the PSAC Championship back in 2015. Senior Alexa Strong is the only other player on the current roster that was on the 2015 title team, but she was not in the lineup for that win.
• A total of nine teams are set to participate in the event. Three of those teams have a title including Millersville, Gannon and Calfornia University of Pennsylvania. Cal (Pa.) has a total of five trophies with its most recent title coming in 2014. This season California has only two players competing. Gannon is the defending champion and has three titles in program history. Gannon won last season when Diana Munoz shot a 5-over 147 to claim the individual medalist honor and Manuela Quevedo tied for second place by shooting 75-76.
• Millersville started off the season with a sixth-place finish at the Mercyhurst Invitational--its best finish with a field greater than six teams. At the end of September, the Marauders won the Ursinus Fall Invitational with three of the golfers under 80. The team secured its second win of the season at the Eastern Fall Invitational where Greene recorded a 12-over 82 and freshman Hannah Yanoski shot a 15-over 85.
• Greene has three top-five finishes and is coming off a 7-over 78 in the Ursinus Invitational, an 8-over 80 in the Alvernia Invitational and a 12-over 82 in the Eastern Fall Invitational. Last season at the PSAC Championship, Greene shot her best career championship rounds of 76-75 to put herself in a tie for second place. This season, Greene owns an 80.53 scoring average.
• Freshman Hannah Yanoski has registered some low rounds this season as well. Yanoski began her Millersville career at the Evann Parker Memorial Tournament where she shot an 83-87 to tie for 14th. She set her career low at the Ursinus Invitational with a 7-over 78 to tie for fourth.
• Sophomore Joelie Bennett has a year of competition under her belt and looking to improve from last season. Bennett posted her lowest round this season at the Gannon Invitational by scoring a 2-over 74 in the opening round. Bennett played in last year's PSAC Championship when she carded a 107-99 to place 40th. Bennett has played in all events this season and owns a scoring average of 88.6.
• Freshman Belle Keopraseut has shown improvement since the first tournament of the year. Keopraseut recorded her career low of 8-over 79 in the Ursinus Fall Invitational.
• Kutztown is looking like the favorite for the 2017 championship. The Golden Bears have taken three out of the six golfer of the week honors this season. Kutztown has claimed second or first in every tournament it has played. Shannon Weber, who won the PSAC Championship as a Marauder in 2015, is averaging a 78.7 with two medalist honors this season in the Evann Parker Memorial Tournament and Kutztown Fall Invitational. Rebecca Graham claimed this week's player of the week honor by winning the East Stroudsburg Invitational, shooting two 76's.
• The starting lineup for the Marauders includes: Greene (1), Yanoski (2), Bennett (3), Keopraseut (4), and Strong (5).
• Millersville begins its tournament starting on the 10th tee Saturday at 10:45 a.m. Sunday's tee times will be set best on the first round scores.
