GAME NOTES
• Having already clinched a spot within the PSAC Tournament for the first-time in program history, the Millersville softball team sets aside PSAC East play when it hosts USciences and Chestnut Hill on Wednesday and Thursday for home doubleheaders. The Marauders are coming off of a road non-conference split with Goldey-Beacom as
Brianna Andraos four-hit the Lightning in a 5-1 victory, but the Marauders dropped a 3-0 decision in game two.
• Arguably no pitcher within the PSAC has been as dominant as
Brianna Andraos who was named PSAC East Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after shouldering the pitching load for the Marauders last week. She appeared in all four games, throwing three complete games in her starts and allowed just one run in 5.2 innings of relief in game two against Shippensburg. In her three starts, Andraos pitched 21 innings, allowing just one run on 16 hits while striking out 14. Her shutout against Shippensburg clinched the playoffs, and she threw back-to-back complete games in the sweep of West Chester. Andraos has also lowered her ERA to 1.95, which ranks 13th in the PSAC and her eight shutouts on the season is the top mark within the conference. She also enters Tuesday two strikeouts away from breaking Laura Harris' career strikeout record of 302 that was set in 2003.
• The Marauder offence features reigning PSAC East Athlete of the Week
Brittany Smith who went 5-for-13 (.384) against Shippensburg and the No. 12 ranked West Chester Golden Rams. The junior drove in three runs, including the game-winning run against Shippensburg via a two-run homer, which punched the Marauders ticket into postseason play. Smith is hitting .339 and leads the team in hits (41), home runs (4), RBIs (27), and slugging percentage (.512).
• Millersville has consistently made solid contact at the plate this season and has a combined team batting average of .292.
Mandy Hammond,
Megan McCurdy,
Brittany Smith,
Megan Hallock, and
Heather Lutz own batting averages above .300. Millersville has also received clutch hitting and solid production off of the bench from
Melanie Snyder and
Maria Spinosa has successfully transitioned from third base to shortstop where she is hitting .280 and has 103 assists from her defensive alignment.
• When looking at the PSAC statistical rankings, the Marauders rank fifth in the conference with its .292 batting average, seventh with 163 runs scored, fourth in doubles (53) and seventh in team ERA (2.87).
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
• Millersville and USciences met for the first time in four years a season ago when the teams squared off in Clermont, FL as part of the Spring Games at the National Training Center. The Devils were victorious by a narrow 3-2 margin as it used a three-run home run in the fourth to upend the Marauders. The start represented
Cassidy Pinchorski's colligate debut and she worked seven innings and gave up three earned runs on just four hits while walking seven and striking out four.
• Offensively, the Devils are led by junior Ashley Lewis and senior Katie Dickson who own batting averages of .342 and .362, respectively. Lewis has already surpassed career-high marks in hits (38), doubles (2), RBIs (8), and stolen bases (11).
• Chestnut Hill is 11-37 and familiar with the PSAC. The club played doubleheaders against East Stroudsburg and West Chester earlier in the season and was only able to pick up an extra-inning 2-1 win over the Warriors.
• Briannen Holloway is a pitcher to watch, boasting a 3.19 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 118.1 innings. Fellow starter Kaitlyn Johnson is 5-13 with an ERA of 4.15 along with 85 strikeouts in 104.2 innings of work.
