GAME NOTES• The Millersville softball team is coming home from a pair of heartbreaking losses at West Chester over the weekend. The Golden Rams spoiled an outstanding outing from
Brianna Andraos plating home two runs in the bottom of the fifth taking the 2-0 win in game one and took a 6-2 decision in the nightcap. The Marauders are set to revenge the pair of losses in a doubleheader with Shippensburg on Thursday.
• Andraos had an impressive week within the circle for the Marauders earning PSAC East Pitcher of the Week after tossing 23.1 innings and posting a 2-1 record over four appearances helping Millersville to a 4-2 week that included a sweep of East Stroudsburg. Andraos allowed just three runs and 18 hits while striking out 16 in her four appearances. The senior tossed a three-hit shutout in her first start of the week against Bowie State and followed it up with another complete game shutout in Millersville's 2-0 win over ESU.
• Millersville has hit the ball extremely well to begin the season with a combined batting average of .292. Three of the Marauder regular starters:
Mandy Hammond, Megan McCurdey and
Heather Lutz own batting averages above .300. Millersville has also got solid production from
Melanie Snyder and
Jamie Trewhella who each own batting averages over .400 in limited playing time. Trewhella is 10-for-23 (.435) at the dish and Snyder is 9-of-20 (.450).
• Nobody was hotter at the plate than Hammond who had an eight-game hitting streak that included seven multi-hit games during Millersville's eight games down south. Hammond went 17-for-27 with four steals, four RBIs and six runs scored in the stretch. Hammond's current .431 batting average ranks seventh in the PSAC and has slapped the 10th most hits (31) in the conference.
• The Marauders are well on their way to surpassing their home run output from a season ago (22). Through its first 26 games the Ville has clubbed nine homers and are led by
Megan McCurdy,
Brittany Smith and
Kelsey Campbell who have each belted a pair.
• Millersville will look to get its bats back on track after being held in check by the West Chester pitching staff and it couldn't come at a better time as the Raiders have given up the second most runs (109) in the PSAC and their combined ERA of 3.71 is the 12th worst within the conference.
• When looking at the PSAC statistical rankings, the Marauders rank sixth in the conference with its .292 batting average, 113 runs scored, fifth in doubles (36) and eighth in team ERA (3.13).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• Shippensburg has 19 players on its 2016 roster, including 11 returning players and nine freshmen. However, only four players on the roster are "upperclassmen" -- either juniors or seniors: senior infielder Briana Giovenco, senior infielder Taylor Pattillo, junior infielder Jenny Peel and junior pitcher Casey Thompson.
• A player to watch for the Raiders will be Taylor Pattillo. In two years at SU, Pattillo has batted .350 in 85 games with 12 home runs, 12 doubles, 42 RBIs and 43 runs scored. A two-time All-PSAC First Team second baseman, Pattillo led the team in batting last season and is currently third on the team with a .311 early season batting average.
