Anderson and Neff Power Marauders to Win in Series Finale

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Reid Anderson's first career mound start was a success, and with the help of Dan Neff's two-run homer in a three-run third inning, the No. 18 Millersville baseball team topped Winston-Salem State 4-2 Sunday afternoon.
Millersville (3-1) produced 10 hits and drew six walks, but three of the team's four runs came in one inning. Leadoff hitter Tyler Orris led off the third with a single and Neff, who went 2-for-5 with two steals on the day, hit a home run that gave Millersville a 2-0 lead. Chas McCormick followed with a double and later scored when Dan Stoltzfus singled him home.
The 3-0 lead was plenty for Anderson and the Marauder pitching staff. Anderson sat down the first nine batters he faced and struck out the side in the third. The Rams got on the board in the fourth, scoring a run on one hit, one walk, two errors and two fielder's choices. Anderson gave up a leadoff hit in the fifth but promptly retired the next three hitters to finish his first career start with the win. Anderson allowed just one run, two hits and a walk while striking out five.
Millersville added to the lead in the fifth on a RBI double from Ben Snyder which scored Stoltzfus.
The Marauder bullpen turned in four strong innings of work. Freshman Kyle Peterson handled the sixth, and classmate Mike Mock struck out three in a scoreless seventh. Newcomer Steve Hatala gave up a run in the eighth to make the score 4-2, but Cody Stoneback closed the door in the seventh for the save. Stoneback was the third different Marauder to pick up a save in the series.
Orris, Neff and McCormick all had two hits and stole at least one base. Ted Williams produced a hit for the sixth consecutive game dating back to last season. Williams went 5-for-10 with five walks drawn in the four-game series.
The opening series spanned 33.0 innings for Millersville's pitching staff, and it allowed just seven earned runs and 27 hits while striking out 41. The bullpen, which saw nine pitchers take the mound, gave up just two runs in 11.2 innings.
Millersville returns to action on Feb. 19 at the annual Riverside Spring Classic in Williamston, N.C. The Marauders face PSAC West foes Pitt-Johnstown, Seton Hill and Indiana (Pa.) over the three-day stretch.
