York, Pa. – The Millersville women's swimming team finished the 2016 PSAC Championship in eighth place overall and accumulated 175 points which represented the second most most points in program history. The eighth-place finish represented the Marauders' best at the conference meet since 2006.
Grace Magerr concluded the best conference championships of her career and could arguably go down as the top distance swimmer in Millersville history. She finished up her individual portion of the championships by turning in another top-five finish Sunday evening. Magerr rebroke her school record in the 1,650-yard freestyle finishing the event in 17:24.76, which was good for fifth place.
Rachel Malampy earned the Marauders team points in the consolation final of the 100-yard freestyle. Malampy had a better preliminary time (53.97) in the morning, but her time of 54.64 was good for 16th place.
Backstroker Emily Fusco qualified for the consolation finals of the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.57 in the prelims. Fusco finished the consolation heat 12th with a recorded time of 2:08.52. The mark was over a second slower than the sophomores program record.
Janelle Laudermilch competed in the 200-yard breaststroke and finished 15th in the consolation final. The senior finished the event in 2:30.75.
In the final event of the evening, Malampy, Magerr, Brigid Kavanaugh and Lizzie Ebert teamed up in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet eared 18 team points with their ninth place finish. Malampy was the anchor as she touched the wall in 3:36.85.
The 175 points scored marked the fourth straight year the Marauders achieved a total of 90 or more team points under the leadership of Kyle Almoney. Millersville was also the top finishing women's only program in the conference.
Several Millersville swimmers will now wait to hear from the NCAA to see if their duo of NCAA provisional cut times were good enough to qualify them for the NCAA Championships in March.
