Women's Golf Takes Third at Evann Parker Memorial

North East, Pa. - Millersville women's golf started its 2015-16 season on Friday at the Evann Parker Memorial and closed the first round in third place. The second round was washed out because of rain, so the opening round scores stood. The Marauders opened with a 43-over-par 331, just behind Charleston and Seton Hill's 329.

Millersville finished ahead of 11 other teams including four PSAC programs. Charleston was awarded the team trophy on a tiebreaker.

Marauder sophomore Shannon Weber opened with a 7-over-par 79, putting her six shots off the pace set by Seton Hill's Courtney Newport and in a tie for fourth. It was the 12th top-10 finish in her 14 career events. She has also finished in the top five of seven consecutive tournaments. Newcomer Danielle Greene posted a 9-over-par 81 in her first collegiate round, placing her in a tie for ninth. Senior captain Jaimie Wharton stood one shot and five places behind Greene. Danielle Freed rounded out Millersville's scoring with an 89.

Millersville has a long weekend in Erie, Pa., with the Gannon-hosted Michael Corbett Classic set for Sunday and Monday.
