West Chester, Pa. - Millersville men's golf carried the lead into Monday's final round of the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational. But instead of taking home a second consecutive first-place finish and second Cottrell title in the last three years, the Marauders tumbled down the leaderboard and finished in seventh place.

The uncharacteristic struggles came in perhaps the most adventageous weather conditions the Marauders have seen all season. Just two weeks removed from an impressive win at the West Liberty Invitational, the Marauders posted a 301 in the opening round. Conor Gilbert fronted the Marauder charge and finished the first of two rounds in second place with a one-over-par 72.

But on Monday, Gilbert was the only Marauder to break 80 on the par-71 Penn Oaks track. Millersville's 324 was third-highest among the 14 teams in the field, and it was their third-highest score of the season. Gilbert remained contention for medalist honors before faltering over the final three holes. He finished with a 6-over-par 77 and tied for fourth overall.

Robby Rowe came into Monday at 4-over but hit 80 for just the second time and tied for 17th--his lowest finish of the season. Rodney Anders shot a career-best 73 in the opening round but he came in 10 strokes higher on Tuesday and placed in a tie for 19th. Connor Sheehan's 53rd-place finish also counted toward the team score.

Millersville is in the mix to qualify for a third consecutive NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional and will need to solidify its standing for an at-large selection at next week's Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational hosted by Indiana (Pa.).
