
Underclassmen Lead Marauders at Princeton Invitational

Princeton, N.J. – The Millersville track and field team used its last chance to prepare for the PSAC Championships by placing in the top 10 in five different events on Sunday at the Princeton Invitational.
The meet began with field athletes participating in the weight throw. Junior Vanessa Hower tossed her second best throw of the season as it sailed 14.12 meters. The mark earned Hower an eighth-place finish. Teammate Ann Kovacs also competed in the event as she finished 11th with her top throw traveling 13.05 meters.
Erin Harman had the top overall finish of the day for the Marauders as she earned a second-place finish in the pole vault. The freshman re-broke her school record in the event clearing 11'5.75". The mark not only has Harman qualified for the PSAC Championships but it's ranked fifth best on the 2014-15 Indoor Performance List.
Millersville had another top-10 finish in the 60-meter hurdles as Arianna Camel finished the event in 9.30 which was good for eighth place. Earlier in the day, Camel produced an even better mark in the trials when she completed the event in 9.26. Freshman Madie Tropp also competed in the hurdles as her 11th place finish represented her top career finish in the event.
Sophomore Aniya Gibbs met the qualifying standard for the second time of the season in the 400-meter dash. Gibbs placed seventh as she crossed the finish line in 1:00.76. The Marauders will have three athletes participating in the event next weekend, as Erin Madison currently owns the fourth fastest time in the PSAC.
Emily Leighow was the final Marauder athlete that scored a top-10 finish Sunday, as she did
so in the 3000-meter run. Leighow finished the event eighth with a recorded time of 11:47.31.
The Millersville track and field team now has one week to prepare for the PSAC Championships. The conference championships take place Feb. 28-March 1 and will take place on the campus of Edinboro University.
