MATCH OVERVIEW• Millersville puts its undefeated dual record on the line Thursday evening in its first home dual since November. It is the start to a busy home slate for the Marauders over the final two months of the season, which includes eight home duals. The Marauders are 1-0 against PSAC competition, defeating Shippensburg in November, but Gannon figures to be the Marauders' stiffest challenge to date with six regionally ranked wrestlers and the nation's No. 2 125-pounder in Matt Turek. Gannon was ranked fifth in the most recent Super Region 1 ranking while Millersville was ranked ninth.
• Millersville starts seven true freshmen tonight but it is evident that this isn't just any freshman class. The Marauders are off to their first 4-0 start since going 6-0 to start the 2000-01 season under Floyd "Shorty" Hitchcock. Four Marauder freshmen have won double-digit matches already, and the group is led by 157-pound
Shane Ruhnke, who has already recorded a 15-2 record and ranks 20th nationally in pins with eight. In addition to his eight falls, Ruhnke boasts three major decisions and two tech falls. He has registered bonus points in all but one of his matches this season, and that one came in 11-4 decision against Virginia's Dustin Roemer at the F&M Open. Ruhnke's only two losses have come against the nation's No. 1-ranked wrestler in Division II and Division III. His first was against Washington & Jefferson's Nick Carr. His most recent came against Notre Dame College's Jonatan River, the No. 1-ranked wrestler in Division II. Ruhnke most recently finished third at the F&M Open.
• Ruhnke's classmates
Ian Shannon (13-6),
Kyle Narber (11-6) and
David Wuestner (10-4) have also eclipsed the 10-win mark. Narber ranks second on the team with five pins and has one tech fall and one major decision.
• Fashioning a scouting report on Gannon isn't easy as the Golden Knights have yet to compete in a dual. Instead, they have wrestled in seven highly-competitive tournaments. And while Turek is ranked No. 2 in the nation, he has wrestled only three matches this season, recording one major decision and one tech fall. Similarly, 184-pound Zack Zelcs is ranked Xth in the region and will see his first mat time of the season tonight. Heavyweight Nick Budd and 149-pound Garrett Smith lead the team with 14 wins apiece.
• Millersville's
Austin Camacci and Turek have met before. In last season's dual, Turke won by a 20-7 major decision. The only other rematch in tonight's dual will be at 149 where
Nico Demetrio and Eric Lewandowski tangle after a 17-2 tech fall in favor of Lewandowski at the PSAC Championships in December.
• Gannon is 2-0 against Millersville, with both meetings coming since the program joined the PSAC. In last season's match-up, Millersville received its two wins from
Aram Moffitt and
David Charles.
