West Chester Pa. - The Millersville men's tennis team competed in the PSAC Individual Championships on Saturday and Sunday. Senior Jody Sambrick Jr., reached the championship match and finished as the PSAC runner-up.
Due to the inclement weather, play was delayed multiple times throughout the day until the championship committee deemed the courts unplayable and play was resumed Sunday. The format of the tournament also changed as all singles matches leading up to the championship match were determined by one set.
Kevin Tran was the first of the Marauders to compete Sunday as he took on Gilberto Macchado of Bloomsburg University. Macchado was able to get the better of Tran, defeating him, 8-2. Meanwhile, Sambrick Jr. was able to win his first round matchup 8-6 over Amir Talab of Edinboro. In the second round, Sambrick Jr. narrowly defeated Charlie Rushing of West Chester, 7-6.
In the semifinals, Sambrick Jr. was able to push one round further then he did in 2013 as he defeated Kutztown senior Matt Maguire, 7-5. In the championship match where play was determined by two sets, Merychurst freshman Nenad Terzic defeated Sambrick Jr., 7-6, 7-3.
In the doubles bracket, Tran teamed up with Dylan Ryan. They took on Ken Beebe and Rich Lichtenwalner of Kutztown, who defeated the Marauder pair, 6-1.
The Millersville men's tennis team returns to action on Sept. 24 when they travel to Maryland to battle Harford.
