Indianapolis, Ind. - Kiara Allen won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.79 at the PSAC Outdoor Championships and that mark punched her a ticket to the 2014 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Allendale, Mich. from May 22-24.
Allen's winning time at the conference meet was .05 seconds away from a Millersville record and is currently ranked 19th among 100-meter times in the nation. She will be one of 27 athletes competing for a national championship on May 22. Allen's preliminaries are scheduled to begin on Thursday, May 22 at 6:25 p.m. and if she qualfies for the finals, she will run on Saturday, May 24 at approximately 6:45 p.m.
This will be the first appearance in the national meet for the redshirt sophomore while Erin Madison just missed her second consecutive appearance in the event. In the 400-meter hurdles, it came down to a tiebreaker between Madison and Angelo State's Lexi Brooks. Their best times in the event were both 1:00.85 and Madison currently has the school record in that event, however, Brooks' second-best time was one 100th of a second better than Madison's. Madison placed sixth in her heat at last season's meet but didn't qualify for the finals.
For the hammer throw, Vanessa Hower (52.49 meters), Kelli Farris (51.61 meters) and Ann Kovacs (51.61 meters) all had provisional marks. However, the top 22 distances in the nation were selected and none of those three made the cut. Nationally, Hower's hurl was 25th while Farris and Kovacs both had the 35th-best distance among Division II hurlers. Hower's mark is the best ever for a Marauder hammer thrower.
