This marks the second outdoor event of the season for the Marauders who had a strong showing in the season opening Shamrock Invitational on March 20-22 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. There, Arianna Camel placed sixth overall in the long jump with a distance of 5.12 meters and Kiara Allen took home the eighth-best time in the 100 meter dash (12.20). The Marauders' other top-10 finish came in the 400-meter hurdles where sophomore Erin Madison began her quest for another NCAA berth in the 400 hurdles by running a time of 1:02.91, good for the eighth-fastest run.
In 2014, Allen and Madison as well as senior Erin Mason have led Millersville in the sprints and hurdles. At last year's Metrics in which the women finished second out of 20 teams to Towson's 153 points with 107 points, Allen placed second in the 100 meter dash and fourth in the 200. This season, the redshirt sophomore is at it again and currently boasts the second-best 100 (12.20) and third-best 200 (25.37) times in the PSAC. Right behind her with the conference's fourth-ranked 200 time of 25.46 is senior Erin Mason.
Entering Saturday, Madison owns the conference's second-ranked 400 meter intermediate hurdles time (1:02.91), third-ranked 400 time (57.59) and eighth-ranked 100 meter high hurdles time (15.27).
When it comes to distance, Brittney Martin's 800 time of 2:18.98 is currently good for fourth in the league while Amanda Long ran a time of 2:21.55 in South Carolina and that is ranked eighth in the PSAC. Freshman cross country sensation Shannon Cruz has carried her skill set onto the track and has the second-best 10,000 time in the conference at 38:22.15.
Millersville's 4x100 team is made up of Mason, Allen, Camel, and Jess Fritsche and that team finished with a time of 48.25 at the Shamrock. That mark is currently ranked third in the league. In the 4x8 at the Shamrock, the Marauders went with Amanda Long, Taylour Mauro, Abigail Daley, and Martin to finish with a time of 9:56.41, which is good for fourth in the PSAC.
In field events, Vanessa Hower's discus throw of 36.16 meters is seventh in the conference while Millersville has three of the top ten hammer throws in the league. Those include tosses from Hower (48.87m - first), Ann Kovacs (47.75m - third) and Nicole Sokira (46.81m - sixth).
This will mark the Marauders first event in two weeks but they are eager to prove themselves in their only home meet of the 2014 spring season.
