Marauder Women Win Metrics; Hower Sets Provisional Mark in Hammer

Millersville, Pa. - The Marauder women's track and field team put on a show Saturday afternoon by winning the Millersville Metrics meet with 142 points. Vanessa Hower recorded a meet record and NCAA provisional throw of 50.17 meters in the hammer. Millersville almost doubled the output of second-place West Chester (71.50) and Indiana (Pa.) finished in third with 52 points.
Millersville's sprinters produced a banner day. In the 200-meter dash, Erin Mason (25.20), Kayla Naughton (25.22) and Allen (25.35) took the top three places and those three teamed up with Jess Fritsche to take first place in the 4X100 with a time of 48.60.
Erin Madison had herself a good day as well as she finished first in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.11) and second in the 100 hurdles (15.29). Arianna Camel was right behind her in the 100 hurdles and her time of 15.33 was good for a third-place finish.
Amanda Long placed third in the 800-meter run and was clocked at 2:21.55 while Brittney Martin finished in fourth (2:23.32) and Megan Meyer came in at sixth (2:25.03). Those three were joined by Aniya Gibbs to finish first in the 4x400 at 4:10.59. In the 4x800, Taylour Mauro, Emily Leighow, Abigail Daley, and Judith Costa I Iracheta finished in sixth place with a time of 10:41.24. Their cross country teammate Shannon Cruz took second place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:03.95.
Daley took home second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and was clocked at 12:17.79.
In the field events, Hower finished fifth in the discus (34.52 meters) and with her help, Millersville swept the top four positions in the hammer. Kelli Farris had a throw of 49.27 meters (second), Ann Kovacs tossed it 49.26 meters (third) and Nicole Sokira placed fourth with a throw of 46.93. Olivia Misner finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 37.21.
Millersville next competes in the West Chester Invitational on April 12.
