Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's track and field team is getting set for the Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Shippensburg, Pa. from May 1-3.
Among Millersville's athletes are five who have earned themselves NCAA provisional marks and that list includes Kiara Allen (100-meter dash), Erin Madison (400-meter hurdles) and Vanessa Hower, Ann Kovacs, and Kelli Farris in the hammer throw.
Allen currently has the fastest 100- and 200-meter times in the entire PSAC at 12.04 and 24.96, respectively. The redshirt sophomore set both of those marks at the ESU All-American Invitational while that 200 time was a meet and stadium record. The Eiler-Martin Stadium record was previously held by Millersville's own Savena Pyett in 1985 (25.10). Erin Mason will join Allen in both of those events while Kayla Naughton will also make an appearance in the 200.
Allen, Naughton, Mason, and Jess Fritsche will also be competing in the 4x100-meter relay.
Madison's NCAA provisional came at the West Chester Invitational in the 400 hurdles where she finished in first with a time of 1:02.08. She then broke her own school record in that event with a time of 1:01.02 at the Penn Relays. That mark is currently the 10th-best 400 hurdle time in the nation. Megan Meyer, Brittney Martin and Amanda Long will be running in the 800-meter race.
Five Millersville throwers including Hower, Kovacs, Farris, Nicole Sokira, and Olivia Misner will all take part in the hammer throw. Slippery Rock is the only team that will have more athletes competing in that event at the conference meet with six. Prior to the 2014 outdoor season, Kovacs held the hammer throw's school record at 50.79 meters before she broke her own mark at West Chester (51.61 meters). That same meet, Hower threw it an even further distance of 52.49 meters and that is where the program record stands currently. Hower will also be in the discus and Misner will throw the javelin.
Arianna Camel will participate in the 100-meter high hurdles, high jump and heptathlon and is the only Marauder competing in three events at the conference meet. Camel competed in her first-career heptathlon at West Chester and finished in second with 3,990 points. Camel will be joined by Madison in the 100-meter hurdles.
Shannon Cruz will carry the flag for Millersville in both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs and Abigail Daley will be running in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The Marauders will also be running in the 4x800-meter relay.
Action in Shippensburg will get underway on Thursday at 11 a.m.
