Shippensburg, Pa. - The Millersville women's track and field team won the 4x800-meter relay for the first time in program history and the 100-meter dash for the first time since 2005 en route to a third-place finish at the PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. That marked the highest finish for the Black and Gold since winning the event in 1996 with 104 points.
Kiara Allen added to her resume with an All-PSAC, first-place finish in the 100 and was clocked at a blazing time of 11.79, which was .05 seconds away from a meet record. Erin Mason took seventh in that event with a time of 12.27. The last Marauder woman to win the 100 was Christina Carpenter back in 2005 (11.93).
Prior to Saturday, Millersville had never placed top three in the conference championship's 4x800-meter relay let alone won it. That all changed as All-PSAC performers Aniya Gibbs, Amanda Long, Brittney Martin, and Megan Meyer won the event and set a program record of 9:16.53 in the process.
In the 4x100-meter relay, Allen, Kayla Naughton, Mason, and Jess Fritsche placed second and earned All-PSAC honors with a time of 47.42 after they set a Millersville record in the preliminaries on Friday at 47.24. No quartet has finished better than third in that event since 1992 (48.69/first).
For the 100-meter hurdles, Erin Madison sprinted to a fifth-place finish in 14.67. Madison then shattered her own record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.85 and placed second for an All-PSAC nod with an even lower NCAA provisional. She finished in second for the 400-meter hurdles last season as well.
Naughton (25.76), Mason (25.78) and Allen (25.79) took fifth, sixth and seventh places, respectively, in the 200-meter dash finals. Naughton, Mason, Meyer, and Madison were fifth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:53.67. Shannon Cruz took part in the 5,000-meter run and finished in ninth place with a time of 18:08.61.
For the field events, Olivia Misner was seventh in the javelin (38.85 meters) and Vanessa Hower was eighth in the discus (35.24 meters).
