
Track and Field Wins Two Events at Ship; Kelli Farris Makes it Five NCAA Provisionals

Shippensburg, Pa. - The Millersville women's track and field team competed in the 10th Annual Paul Kaiser Track and Field Classic in Shippensburg, Pa. on Saturday and took home first place in both the 200-meter dash and the hammer throw. Kelli Farris made it five NCAA provisional marks for the Marauders with her hammer throw toss.
Erin Mason won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.83, Kayla Naughton was right behind her in second place (25.96) and Erin Madison was clocked at 26.39, which was good for seventh place.
In the hammer throw, Ann Kovacs placed first with a hurl of 51.47 meters and Kelli Farris became the third Marauder to record an NCAA provisional toss in the hammer throw with a third-place distance of 50.26 meters. Vanessa Hower tossed it 49.13 meters in fourth place and Rebecca Grube finished in 12th place with a mark of 37.17 meters.
Millersville's next-best placing came in the 800-meter run when Megan Meyer finished in fifth with a time of 2:17.79. The other Marauder in the top 10 for that event was Brittney Martin who placed ninth and was clocked at 2:19.54.
Millersville also had top-10 finishes in the 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 1,500-meter run, 3,000-meter steeplechase, and javelin.
Erin Madison's 13.08 100-meter time was good enough for seventh place and it was her first time ever running in that event. In the 1,500-meter run, Shannon Cruz finished in seventh with a time of 5:00.30, Naughton was ninth in the 400 (1:00.24) and Emily Leighow took 10th place in the steeplechase (13:25.59).
The Marauders' only top-10 finish for field events came in the javelin where Olivia Misner was seventh with a throw of 36.46 meters.
Millersville will next compete at the 2014 Outdoor PSAC Championship right back in Shippensburg from May 1 to May 3.
