Box Score Cheyney, Pa. – The Marauders are on a roll after winning their fourth consecutive game Wednesday at Cope Hall against Cheyney, 76-45. In the process,
Aurielle Mosley became just the eighth player in program history to surpass the 1,300-point barrier, leading Millersville with another double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds.
The redshirt senior, who entered Wednesday sitting in ninth place all-time, surpassed two players to move into seventh on the program's career scoring list with 1,310 total points. One of the players Mosley passed was assistant coach
Darlene Newman, who had 1,305 points in her own Millersville career. The forward added three blocks and an assist in just 25 minutes of action to add to her ninth double-double of the year.
Another win improves Millersville's record to 16-6 and 13-5 in PSAC play. It is the first time the Marauders are a full 10 games over .500 since the final day of the 2010-11 season, when that team finished its year at a 22-7 mark. With Bloomsburg's defeat of Shippensburg Wednesday, the win also means Millersville is in sole possession of first place in the PSAC East. The Marauders and Huskies both have a 13-5 conference record, but Millersville owns the head-to-head tiebreaker courtesy of a 2-0 sweep of Bloom this season.
Carly Gallagher finished with 16 and
Senada Mehmedovic tallied 12 points as the other two Marauder players to hit double figure scoring. Gallagher's 16 came on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting night, and Mehmedovic knocked down two triples off the bench as part of her 12 points. After a first half in which the team shot 35.5 percent from the field and was only up 34-23 heading into the locker rooms, Millersville stepped on the gas and finished with a second half of 42-22 on 48.4 percent shooting.
The Marauders and Wolves were tied at 10 points apiece after 4:58 of play. From there, the road team used a 24-13 spurt to end the half and never looked back. In the second half, Millersville's lead swelled to as much as 34 with 2:32 to play. The Marauder defense had a large part in the second half closeout, limiting Cheyney to just 28.6 percent shooting after intermission. Millersville was again strong on the offensive glass, pulling down 22 offensive rebounds and claiming 26 second chance points.
Mashira Newman, who scored just six points to go with three assists and two rebounds, put points on the board for the 100
th consecutive game of her career. She is one of the other seven members of the 1,300-point club that Mosley joined tonight, and is just 56 points shy of current Millersville athletic director
Peg Kauffman for fourth place on the school's all-time scoring list. With 58 points throughout the course of the rest of the season, Newman would become just the fourth player in program history to pass the 1,400-point plateau.
Next up for the Marauders is a Saturday date with Kutztown. The Golden Bears are 13-9 this season with an 11-7 mark in conference play. Millersville took the first meeting of the season between these teams back on Jan. 26, a 78-56 drubbing on the Pucillo Gymnasium hardwood.
