Raiders Sail Past Marauders in Straight Sets

Box Score Shippensburg, Pa. - The Millersville women's volleyball team fell to Shippensburg in straight sets on the road Tuesday night. The loss snapped a five-match winning streak for the Marauders.

There were eight ties in the first 18 points scored of the first set before the Raiders took a 10-9 lead over their guests. Millersville scored four of the next five points to take a 13-11 lead of their own. Katie Lesinski and Mary Paul each sent home a kill in the stretch while Shippensburg added two errors. That was the only lead for the Marauders though as the hosts went on an 8-1 run and cruised to a 25-19 set victory. The Raiders posted their best hitting percentage of the night at a red-hot .393 with 13 kills and only two errors on 28 total attacks.

The second set began just like the first with six ties and the final one came at 7-7. A 9-0 run by the Raiders game them a commanding 16-7 advantage. The closest Millersville could get was seven points at 18-11 but Shippensburg's offense was too much to handle as the home team took the set, 25-16. The Raiders posted a blistering hitting percentage of .333 for the set.

Shippensburg opened the third set on a 12-4 run and never looked back. The Marauders cut the deficit to four a twice at 12-8 and 13-9 but could not contain the Raiders' attack. Shippensburg won the set 25-18 and the match three sets to none.

Katie Lesinski led the attack for Millersville with 12 kills and Jessica Franz tallied 17 assists. On defense, Brooklyn Smith registered 15 digs and three Marauders--Rebecca Roman, Mary Paul and Sydney Gallagher--recorded a pair of blocks.

Millersville closes its home schedule Friday and Saturday against East Stroudsburg (7 p.m.) and Kutztown (1 p.m.).
