Millersville Closes Regular Season with Loss at Lock Haven

Box Score Lock Haven, Pa. – The Millersville women's volleyball concluded its 2013 regular season Saturday night in Lock Haven. The match went the distance but the Bald Eagles won in five sets to avenge an earlier season loss on behalf of the Marauders. With the decision, Millersville slipped to the fourth seed in the Eastern Division for the PSAC Tournament.
 
Millersville (16-15, 11-11 PSAC) came back from a 2-0 deficit but fell to Lock Haven (21-13, 12-10 PSAC) with set scores of 19-25, 23-25, 25-21, 28-26, and 12-15.
 
The Bald Eagles were flying high in the first set and posted a hitting percentage of .500 with 15 kills and only one error on 28 total attacks. The Marauders managed to hit just .133 in the first stanza with 14 kills and 10 errors 30 attack chances. The hosts won the set by a count of 25-19.
 
The second set saw the home team cool down quite a bit with an attacking percentage of just .079 to go with 12 kills and nine errors on 38 total swings. Millersville answered with a hitting percentage of .100 with 12 kills and eight errors on 40 total attacks but dropped the set 25-23.
 
The Marauders posted their best effort of the night in the third set with a red-hot hitting percentage of .269. They tallied 13 kills and just six errors on 26 attack chances. Millersville went on to win the set 25-21.
 
Neither team hit well in the fourth set as the Marauders registered an attacking percentage of just -.032 to the Bald Eagles' .070. Millersville hung on though and won the set in extra points, 28-26.
 
The away team hit .217 in the final set but was outmatched by a hitting percentage of .250 from Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles took the set 15-12 and the match three sets to two.
 
Katie Lesinski sent home a career-high 21 kills to lead the offense. Freshman Erika Smith accumulated a career-high 25 assists and Jessica Franz added 24 helpers. On defense, Brooklyn Smith registered 29 digs and both Sydney Gallagher and Mary Paul blocked six attacks apiece.

The Marauders tallied 20 block assists to set a team-record for block assists in a season with 361.
 
Millersville will take on the one-seeded Shippensburg Raiders Tuesday night in the PSAC Quarterfinals at 7 p.m.
