
Marauders Dominate Wolves in Straight Sets

Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's volleyball team posted a blistering hitting percentage of .255--its second best of the season--to roll past the Wolves of Saint Anselm College in straight sets on Sunday afternoon.
The Marauders (7-10) and Wolves (5-11) met for the first time ever in Pucillo Gymnasium with the home team cruising to an easy three-set victory (25-17, 25-19, 25-16).
Millersville set the tone early by posting a hitting percentage of .262 in the first set to just .114 by Saint Anselm. The Marauders sent home 15 kills and committed just four errors on 42 attack chances in the set. The Wolves tallied 12 kills and seven errors on 44 attack chances. Millersville won the set 25-17.
The second set didn't go as well as the first for the hosts but they were still able to hit .237 to go with 14 kills and five errors on 38 attack chances. Saint Anselm again had 12 kills and seven errors, but this time on 45 chances. The Marauders took set number two by a score of 25-19.
Millersville saved its best for last by hitting .267 in the third set to go with 11 kills and only three errors on 30 attack chances. The visitors posted a hitting percentage of just .086 with 10 kills and seven errors. The Black and Gold took a lopsided set three, 25-16.
The Marauders didn't commit a single receiving error in the match for the first time since doing it against Philadelphia on Oct. 12, 2011.
Katie Lesinski led the attack for Millersville with 13 kills while Jessica Franz aided the offense with 20 assists. On defense, three Marauders registered double-digit digs including Brooklyn Smith (28), Franz (10) and Taylor Smith (10). Above the net, Sydney Gallagher and Rebecca Roman both blocked five attempts apiece.
Millersville will play in their second PSAC crossover of the season when they travel to Lock Haven on Oct. 18-19. The Marauders will battle Edinboro and Slippery Rock on day one with starting times set for 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. On day two, the Black and Gold will face Mercyhurst (12:30 p.m.) and Gannon (3:30 p.m.).
