HOW IT HAPPENED
The Marauders rallied late in the opening set, erasing a 24-21 deficit with an Alex Nava kill, a Lock Haven error and another Nava kill before Nava put 'Ville ahead 25-24 off Addison Reustle's assist. Lock Haven answered with the final three points, leaving the Marauders with a 27-25 set loss despite the late push.
A Marissa Storti service ace opened the second set for 'Ville, but Lock Haven moved in front quickly and built a 10-2 lead. Nava supplied three kills, and Julia Chunta added a service ace during a brief Marauders response that brought the score to 18-9. Lock Haven finished the set 25-14.
Lock Haven put the Marauders in an early hole in the third set, using a six-point service turn to build an 11-2 lead. 'Ville got kills from White, Reustle and Nadia Sawyer, and Reustle teamed with Hailey Lazur on a block, but Lock Haven finished the set 25-7.
"We're at the point of the season that we want to go out there and have a quality performance." said head coach Brian Smith. "We had a good chat before, and I loved the energy they had in the first set. They were confident and aggressive, and we were passing really well... That was one of our better sets against a very good team. The falling apart lies on that we're a young team. We struggled with wins and losses, and when we start to get down, the doubt comes in. They slowly lose confidence in themselves... We came in ready and played an amazing first set, and then Lock Haven jumped on us... But we also had less ball control as we went on."
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
White led the Marauders with eight kills while hitting .400. Sidonia Cecco collected a team-high 14 digs. Cecco reached 200 digs for the season, with a total of 204 after contributing 14 in the match. Storti reached 100 digs for the season, totaling 108 with 10 recorded in the match. Chunta finished with a team-high 13 assists and added a service ace. Lazur totaled five kills, hit .300 and recorded two blocks.
