HOW IT HAPPENED

The set stayed tight late, and the Marauders went up 22-21 on another White block. Shippensburg scored the final four points to take the set 25-22.
'Ville erased a 24-20 deficit by winning the final six points to take the second set 26-24. Addison Reustle served the last five points of the run, with Nava and Marissa Storti supplying kills before Hailey Lazur and Nadia Sawyer combined on the closing block.
The Marauders opened the third set with a 3-0 lead behind two Nava kills and one from Amanda Protzman, and Protzman later added another kill for a 5-3 advantage. Shippensburg then scored eight straight points to move in front 11-5, leaving 'Ville chasing the set the rest of the way. 'Ville spent the fourth set trying to recover after Shippensburg built an 8-2 lead, with Nava providing repeated answers in the attack. The Marauders got back within 12-9 on Alex Nava kill and later scored three straight points from 24-16, capped by Reustle service ace. Shippensburg ended the set on the next point to take it 25-19.
"I thought the team did have a lot of fight in them," said head coach Brian Smith. "I felt we passed well and our defense was improved. Sidonia left it all out there and dug some great balls. Our biggest struggle tonight was our setter /middle hitter connection. Timing seemed off most of the evening, made it tough to get into rhythm offensively. Alex did carry the load tonight, she also had the most passing attempts and did a great job in every aspect of her game. I felt Aubrey also passed and served extremely well. What we need to do better is terminating the ball. We played good volleyball this evening, but Ship had 16 more kills."Â
