
Close sets highlight Marauders' match against Kutztown

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — Millersville University volleyball lost to Kutztown 3-0 (14-25, 29-31, 24-26) on Saturday. The Marauders totaled 32 kills and hit .154, while Kutztown finished with 50 kills and a .271 hitting percentage.
Kutztown held a 52-41 advantage in digs. The Marauders matched Kutztown with six total blocks and committed fewer service errors, and they also took leads in the second and third sets after trailing, but Kutztown finished with 10 service aces compared with six for 'Ville.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kutztown moved the first set from 18-12 to 23-12 against the Marauders with five straight points, including three service aces by Julia Riley. Earlier, 'Ville stayed close behind kills from Hailey Lazur and Alex Nava, with Addison Reustle assisting several early attacks. Marissa Storti added a late kill before Kutztown closed the set, 25-14.
The Marauders erased a late 24-22 deficit in the second set, with Nava putting down a kill and Aubrey Mankoski serving an ace to tie it at 24-24 before Nava's next kill gave 'Ville a 25-24 lead. Nava added kills that tied the set at 26-26 and put the Marauders back in front 27-26, but Kutztown answered each time. The set went to 31-29 in favor of Kutztown.
'Ville pushed in front midway through the third set, turning a 14-13 deficit into an 18-15 lead behind kills from Storti and Reustle. The Marauders later led 20-16 after Reustle's service ace, but Kutztown answered with four straight points to tie the set at 20-20. Amanda Protzman's kill brought 'Ville even at 24-24 before Kutztown scored the final two points to take the set, 26-24.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Nava led the Marauders with nine kills and added seven digs and two blocks. Storti recorded eight kills, two service aces and seven digs. Reustle finished with 17 assists, two kills, a service ace and a block. Sidonia Cecco collected a team-high nine digs and added a service ace.
