Box Score East Stroudsburg, Pa. - The Millersville women's volleyball team found the elusive first road victory of the season Saturday in a straight-set sweep of East Stroudsburg.
Millersville (6-10, 3-6 PSAC) defeated East Stroudsburg (5-16, 1-9 PSAC) 25-21, 25-18, 25-17 to improve to 1-4 on the road. With the win, the Marauders lead the all-time series 36-18. Millersville has won the last 10 meetings between the two teams dating back to 2008 and has lost just one of 31 sets during that stretch.
The first set was the closest of the day. The home team hit just .051 while Millersville matched it with just a .097 hitting percentage of its own. The visitors were able to hold on for the 25-21 set victory and it got easier for the Marauders from there.
Millersville's attack improved in the second set to the tune of a .290 hitting percentage with 13 kills and only four errors. On the other side, the Warriors only managed to hit even as they sent home nine kills but also committed nine errors.
The Marauders closed the match with a impressive third set. The away team posted a blistering hitting percentage of .348 that saw 12 kills and four errors on 23 attack chances. East Stroudsburg managed a hitting percentage of just .037 with nine kills and eight errors. Millersville took the set 25-17 and the match in straight sets.
Kayla Wallace was on fire and led the Marauder attack with 10 kills, one shy of tying her career high. The sophomore committed just one error on 12 attack chances and posted a red hot hitting percentage of .750. Erika Smith aided the offense with 16 assists while Jessica Franz chipped in 12 helpers. On defense, Brooklyn Smith tallied 14 digs while Rebecca Roman and Mary Paul registered six blocks apiece.
Millersville returns home Sunday to face the Hawks of Saint Anselm College beginning at 1 p.m.
