Game 1 |
Game 2
East Stroudsburg, Pa. – After the bats couldn't get going in the first game at East Stroudsburg, Millersville found a way to split the doubleheader with the Warriors, improving to 9-15 (2-2 PSAC East) on the season.
The Marauder bats couldn't come alive in game one against Warrior starter Taylor Webb, who pitched a two-hit shutout to beat Millersville by a 5-0 final. Webb's no-hit bid was broken up in the sixth by an
Ally Homa double, and the only other hit the Marauders would get came in the form of an
Ashley Cantiello leadoff single.
Alicia Hughes took the loss for Millersville, dropping her record to 2-6 this season. She pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and struck out just one. East Stroudsburg untied the scoreless deadlock in the third inning, when Kacie Killeen took Hughes deep for the only run of support Webb would need.
Millersville would get revenge in game two, taking down the Warriors by a 3-2 margin. The Marauders were again bolstered by a big pitching performance from freshman
Sarah Bertoni, who gave the team her fourth straight solid start. Bertoni lasted 5.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and struck out four, improving her record to a team-best 4-7.
Cantiello recorded her first collegiate career save in this game, pitching 1.2 solid innings of relief for Bertoni. The freshman allowed just one hit while striking out two and also went 1-for-4 with a run scored at the dish.
The offense woke up early in this game, jumping Bertoni to a 3-0 lead before she ever took the circle. The team scored three runs on three hits and was aided by two Warrior errors. The team's first run came on an error by East Stroudsburg catcher Alex Schubert with the bases loaded, allowing Homa to score after she singled to start the game.
The final two runs Millersville would get off Warrior starter Laura Suits came on a two-out, two-run single by
Emily Sneeringer.
Allison Chew, who returned to the batting order Friday at West Chester, helped the Marauder offense by getting on base in each of her three plate appearances, tallying her first hit since her return to go along with two walks in the game.
Millersville is currently in the middle of an eight-game road swing, with four more games to play. The team has been on a hot streak of late, winning eight of its last 11 games, making its 1-12 start seem like a distant memory. The Marauders now have four days off before hitting the road Wednesday, March 28 to take on Georgian Court in a doubleheader with the first game starting at 3 p.m. Millersville can even the series between the two with a sweep of the twinbill, trailing the Lions 2-4 all-time.
