Stonehill Rallies to End Millersville's Win Streak at Two

Box Score

Clermont, FL – In a game that saw the Marauders take an early 3-0 lead against the Skyhawks, the team couldn't stave off a late Stonehill rally, falling 6-3 and dropping its record to 3-13.

In the team's final game in Clermont for the Spring Games, Millersville's bats gave the Marauders a 3-0 lead after the first inning. While Sarah Bertoni, Millersville's starting pitcher, gave the team 5+ solid innings, struck out four and worked out of several jams, she surrendered three runs (two earned) and left with the game tied.

Alicia Hughes (1-5), who was the designated player to start the game but relieved Bertoni during a sixth-inning jam, allowed three earned runs to the Skyhawks in the rest of the inning and took the loss.

The Marauders struck first, loading the bases in the first and scoring a run on a throwing error to home by Stonehill pitcher Samantha Krantz, who pitched a complete game. Millersville scored its second run of the inning on the next play, a single by Bertoni that plated Gabbie Berry. From that point, the Skyhawks mounted their comeback.

Cantiello and Bertoni led the Millersville offensive attack, registering two hits each. Ally Homa and Danielle DiFilippo had the other two hits for the Marauders, accounting for the total of six.

The Marauders were aiming for their third-straight win, with a two-game winning streak that produced victories over Bentley and Bridgeport, respectively, on the line.

Millersville has a few days off, with the team's next two games coming in a doubleheader Tuesday, March 20 at Philadelphia University. The team is 13-1 all-time against the Rams, but the two teams have not met since 2009, when the Marauders came away with a 9-5 victory.
