Red Raiders Blank Marauders, 3-0

Box Score Millersville, Pa. – Tuesday night against Shippensburg, the women's volleyball team was looking for a split in the season series between the teams after the Marauders dropped the first meeting on Sept. 25. Millersville, however, couldn't get the offensive attack working against the Red Raiders, as Shippensburg blanked the Marauders on their home floor, 3-0.
 
The Red Raiders held Millersville to .103 hitting as a team en route to straight-set wins of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-22, respectively. The Marauders gave Shippensburg all it could handle all the way to the final point, as the home team hit .289 and committed just one error in the final set, despite falling 25-22. The loss takes Millersville to 10-15 overall and 4-10 in PSAC East play, while the win improves Shippensburg's record to 22-9 and 10-4 in the PSAC East.
 
Katie Lesinski saw her string of 11 straight matches leading Millersville in kills come to an end, as the sophomore knocked down just six on the night. The Marauders' leader up front was Emily Kaledas, who had seven kills on .278 hitting to go along with four total blocks (two solo). Jessica Franz led the team with 23 helpers and added four digs.
 
Millersville's defense did come to play in the pivotal PSAC East match, limiting Shippensburg to .191 hitting as a team on 110 attempts. Jill Edwards was too strong for Millersville up front, however, managing a match-high 17 kills to go along with 11 digs. In total, the Marauder front line blocked nine kill attempts and the back line dug out 49 more, led by Brooklyn Smith's 13.
 
Tuesday night's match was the second-to-last one at home for Millersville in 2012. The team's final home match comes Sunday against 4-15 Davis & Elkins. Before the Marauders can turn their attention to the Senators, however, they must now focus on the Golden Bears. The team plays at Kutztown on Saturday at 3 p.m. Five of the final six matches for Millersville are on the road, and all five of those matches are against PSAC East opponents.
