Women's Volleyball Upsets Lock Haven, 3-1

Box Score Millersville, Pa. – Millersville got off to a good start in the all-time series against Lock Haven, winning the first eight meetings. The Marauders, however, hadn't won a match between the two since 1995, spanning 22 matches. Friday night, Millersville made sure that streak didn't hit 23, topping Lock Haven 3-1 to improve its record to 8-13, 2-8 PSAC East.

The Marauders and Bald Eagles played a four-set thriller that saw three sets decided by three points or less; all three of those sets were won by Millersville. After the Marauders stormed out of the gates to a first-set win by a score of 25-22, the home team had an upset of PSAC East division leader Lock Haven (12-9, 7-3 PSAC East) within their sights.

Lock Haven was not going to go down easily, and punched back in the second set with a decisive 25-15 win with a .259 hitting percentage. But Millersville was not going to let its home crowd leave without seeing a win, as the Marauders pulled out gut-wrenching wins of 28-26 and 29-27 in the final two sets to pull off the upset. Millersville forced the Bald Eagles into 10 hitting errors in the final set to clinch the victory

Katie Lesinski provided the Marauders with a force up front, finishing on 12 kills with a solid .259 attack percentage. Samantha Agostini backed Lesinski and produced nine kills on .333 hitting. Jessica Franz notched her seventh double-double of the season and second in a row with 33 assists and 12 digs. Franz filled the stat sheet, adding two blocks and two service aces.

Defensively, Millersville proved it can play with any team in this match, limiting Lock Haven to .146 hitting as a team. Brooklyn Smith and Sue Caramanico dug out a combined 24 kills and had four service aces between them as key defensive players on the back line. At the net, Emily Kaledas stifled the Bald Eagle attack with five total blocks as part of a team defensive effort that saw the Marauder defense block 17 kill attempts in total.

The Marauders barely get to enjoy Friday's monumental win with a quick turnaround. The team is slated to play tomorrow against East Stroudsburg in another important PSAC East match at Pucillo Gymnasium. The Warriors enter tomorrow's match ahead of Millersville in the PSAC East standings at 7-12 and 4-7 in divisional play.

The Marauders swept East Stroudsburg in the first meeting between the teams this year when the Warriors came to town for the Marauder Clash. A second win over East Stroudsburg would put Millersville in a tie for fourth place in the division with idle West Chester, which currently sits at 3-8 in the PSAC East.
