Millersville, Pa. – The Marauder Clash was turning out just the way the Millersville women's volleyball team wanted. However, in the gold final match, the Marauders ran into The Rock. Slippery Rock halted the Marauders from winning the Marauder Clash at Pucillo Gymnasium, 3-2.
The Marauders fought point-for-point with Slippery Rock only to fall in the fifth set. Every set was close between Millersville and its' PSAC counterpart, with the scores reading 25-27, 25-21, 25-23, 19-25 and 12-15.
In the first match of the day, Millersville advanced to the gold final round with a 3-0 sweep of Bowie State. The Marauders dispatched of the Bulldogs easily by scores of 25-9, 25-14 and 25-10. In the gold semifinal match, Millersville again took care of business with a 3-0 sweep. This time, the Marauders pulled out the broom on the Rams of Shepherd. Millersville won that match with scores of 25-12, 25-23 and 25-21.
Allison Huss fueled Millersville's offensive attack again with 35 kills for the day.
Mary Paul and
Rebecca Roman were all over the court. Paul collected a total of 34 kills and 17 blocks, while Roman chipped in 31 kills to go along with her 16 blocks.
Jess Franz had a team-high with 86 assists for the day and
Katie Pisano added 75.
The Marauders were well represented in the all-tournament teams. Huss, Roman and
Sue Caramanico all made the first team and Paul and Franz made the second team.
Katie Lesinski shined in her first action as a Marauder this weekend and looks to be a bright spot for the team going forward. Her play this weekend garnered her a nod for honorable mention to round out the team's all-tournament members.
Millersville heads to Florida next weekend with an eye toward winning the Eckerd College Tournament. The team will not return home until Sept. 20, when it hosts Franklin & Marshall on the Pucillo Gymnasium hardwood at 7 p.m.
