Millersville Women's Volleyball Sweeps Its Way Through First Day of Marauder Clash

Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's volleyball team is off to a roaring start. The Marauders grabbed a pair of sweeping wins over Wilmington (Del.) and Georgian Court in their first two matches of the Marauder Clash, winning each match 3-0 on their home floor.

Millersville can only hope that the rest of the season goes as smoothly. The team downed Wilmington 25-21, 25-18 and 25-20 to start the season in the win column. Georgian Court didn't fare much better against the Marauders in match two, as Millersville dispatched of the Lions decisively; 25-12, 25-12 and 25-19.

Great defense was the key in the two wins today, with Millersville blocking 13 shots in total to its opponents six. Wilmington had a .077 attack percentage, while Georgian Court posted a -.030 attack percentage.

Senior Allison Huss led the way in a potent Marauders attack that saw four different players tally at least nine kills over two matches. Huss had a combined 15 kills in addition to four blocks.

Sophomore Rebecca Roman and freshman Katie Lesinski each had 10 total kills while sophomore Mary Paul chipped in with nine kills and a team-high five blocks.

Millersville's teamwork was on display today as well. Sophomores Katie Pisano and Jessica Franz found a way to get everyone involved to the tune of 30 and 25 total assists, respectively.

The Marauders' work in their own tournament isn't done yet. Tomorrow they face off against a tough Bowie State squad at 10 a.m., back on the Pucillo Gymnasium hardwood. Millersville will look to play its way into the Gold Finals bracket of the tournament and can do so by defeating the Bulldogs in the first match of the day.
