Millersville Takes Down Lakers

Box Score

Erie, Pa. – Winning against the PSAC West had become a chore for the Millersville women's volleyball team. It hadn't beaten a team from the opposite division since a 2006 victory over Indiana (Pa.). Tonight's away match at Mercyhurst College ended that drought, though, as the Marauders topped the Lakers 3-1.

In beating the Lakers, the Marauders also put a stop to a five-match road losing streak and a six-match streak overall, making their record 5-6 (1-0 PSAC). Millersville was slow out of the gates, losing the first set 25-9, but rebounded by taking three straight sets with scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-20.

Allison Huss was one of four Millersville seniors who had never seen their team beat a PSAC West opponent, but she did her part to help the Marauders get their first PSAC win of the year. Huss finished with seven kills, a .200 attack percentage and three aces, all while committing no service errors.

Helping Huss in Millersville's attack were Alyssa Ott and Katie Lesinski. Ott totaled team-highs in kills with nine and attack percentage, coming in at .318. Lesinski added eight kills and a .300 attack percentage. On the defensive side, Sue Caramanico led the team with 20 digs and Mary Paul paced the Marauders with four blocks (one solo).

The Marauders are in action again tomorrow against two more PSAC West opponents in a doubleheader at Edinboro University. Millersville stays on the western side of Pennsylvania to play a tough Edinboro team (9-1, 1-0 PSAC) at 10 a.m. and Gannon (5-4, 1-0 PSAC) at 5 p.m. The team returns home from a stretch of eight straight road games to play Franklin & Marshall at Pucillo Gymnasium at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
