Lock Haven, Pa. - Few pitchers in Division II have posted early season numbers as good as Brooks Rothschild's. On Monday, he Millersville junior, who earned his fourth win over the weekend, was named PSAC Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year.
Facing PSAC East rival Mansfield, Rothschild flirted with a no-hitter for a 5.1 innings and ended with a complete game, two-hit shutout to help Millersville to a 6-0 win and a doubleheader split on Saturday.
Rothschild, now 4-1, retired the first 11 Mountaineers he faced before issuing a two-out walk. He did not allow a runner to get past first base until a two-out double in the seventh put runners at second and third after an error. He responded by retiring the final hitter of the game on a pop out. He was responsible for allowing just three baserunners and he walked one and struck out five.
Rothschild, who earlier this season set a new PSAC record for consecutive scoreless innings (dating back to last season) with 27, has not allowed a run in four of his six starts this year. He boasts a 1.57 ERA in five starts and six appearances and leads the team with 34.1 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting just .157 against him.
Rothschild will likely take the mound Friday at Marauder Park against Kutztown. Game one of the doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
