Millersville, Pa. – After going 1-1 on Friday, the Millersville women's volleyball team dropped both matches in Saturday's action of the PSAC Crossover, falling to both Indiana (Pa.) and California (Pa.) by identical 3-1 scores. Millersville's record fell to 9-13 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
In the first match against the Crimson Hawks, the Marauders lost set one by a 25-15 score before evening the match at one with a second set victory of 25-21. From there, IUP controlled the rest of the match with third and fourth set scores of 25-16 and 25-20. The Hawks hit .276 as a team in the match while stymieing the Millersville attack, holding the Marauders to a total .129 hitting percentage.
Katie Lesinski and Rebecca Roman tied for the team lead with 10 kills apiece. Lesinski hit .333, adding 11 digs and three block assists to her 10 kills. Mary Paul registered eight kills and five block assists, while Jessica Franz led the team with 23 assists.
Against California (Pa.), the Marauders gave the 19-3 (10-1 PSAC West) Vulcans all they could handle. The Vulcans took the first two sets by scores of 25-18 and 26-24. Millersville rallied to take the third set, 25-20 before dropping the fourth set by a slim 25-23 margin. Again, Millersville was held to lower attack percentage than its opponent, hitting .147 to the Vulcans .225.
Lesinski paced the Marauders in this match as well, registering 13 kills, 12 digs and three more block assists. Allison Huss gave a strong effort with eight kills and 15 digs while Roman added seven kills with a team-high .263 attack percentage on 19 swings. Katie Pisano and Franz were responsible for fueling the Millersville attack with 19 and 18 assists, respectively.
The Marauders are back in action on Wednesday against East Stroudsburg on their home floor of Pucillo Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
