Women's Volleyball Splits on Day One of PSAC Crossover

vs. Clarion | vs. Slippery Rock

Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's volleyball team hosted the first day of a PSAC Crossover Friday and came away with a win over Clarion and a loss to Slippery Rock. The Marauders took the morning match from the Golden Eagles in five sets, but fell to Slippery Rock in four.

Millersville (9-11, 3-5 PSAC East) notched its second win over a PSAC West team this season by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 23-25, 15-12. Millersville hit .316 in the match agains tthe Golden Eagles and totaled 11.0 blocks. Katie Lesinski and Mary Paul each tallied double-digit kills. Katie Pisano and Jessica Franz each posted 19 assists. Sue Caramanico totaled 26 digs.

Millersville held Clarion to a .222 attack percentage including a .029 mark in the first set win and a .122 percentage in the fourth.

After jumping out two a 2-0 lead, Millersville dropped two in a row, sending the match to a deciding fifth set. In the fifth, Clarion took a 6-2 lead but the Marauders roared back and finally took a 12-11 lead on a Clarion service error. Roman and Paul recorded back-to-back block assists to put the lead at 14-11, and Paul finished the win with a set.

Slippery Rock (17-3, 6-3 PSAC West) kept Millersville's offensive attack in check with a strong front line. The Rock totaled 13.0 blocks and received 22 kills from Kaylee Smith. Smith committed just two errors and posted a .435 attack percentage. Millersville lost a close 25-22 decision in the first set and after falling in the second by a 25-16 score, it bounced back with a 25-17 win in the third. Slippery Rock rallied for a 25-15 win in the fourth.

Millersville posted an impresive 13 kills to four errors in the third set win. Lesinski led the way with 12 kills. Caramanico totaled 21 digs.

Millersville hosts day two of the crossover Saturday and starts the action at 9 a.m. against Indiana (Pa.)
