Ship Downs Millersville; Takes Lead in Playoff Race

Shippensburg, Pa. – Going into Tuesday's match, the Marauders were set to take on Shippensburg with a playoff spot likely on the line. Coming away from the match with a 3-0 victory, the Red Raiders look to have stolen that spot from Millersville, which owned the fourth and final PSAC East playoff spot for the majority of the season.

Shippensburg 11-17 (6-10 PSAC East) dispatched of the Marauders 15-17 (6-11 PSAC East) in three sets, but Millersville stayed close all match long with each set decided by five points or less. The closest margin came in the first set as the Red Raiders took set one by a 25-21 score. The final two sets saw Shippensburg claim the match by taking sets two and three by identical 25-20 scores.

The Marauders were able to stay in the match, despite the Red Raiders stifling their attack to the tune of a .184 team attack percentage and 39 kills. The Red Raiders hit .325 for the match with 51 kills.

Millersville was led by Mary Paul in this match with 12 kills. That total set a season-high and tied her career high set last year. Paul hit .458 for the match on 24 swings, committing just one error and adding three block-assists.

Allison Huss was another big contributor for the Marauders, as she added nine kills and tied for a match-high 15 digs. With her first dig of the match, Huss eclipsed the 1,000-dig mark for her career, making her just the ninth player in school history to accomplish that feat. Teammate Sue Caramanico is also a member of that club, breaking the 1,000-dig threshold against Kutztown last Friday night. Katie Pisano also registered a double-double for Millersville, tallying a team-high 34 assists and chipping in on the defensive end with 11 digs.

The Marauders now have to finish 2-0 in PSAC play and hope for a 1-2 PSAC finish from the Red Raiders to sneak back into the fourth spot in the East. Millersville has three days off before a tri-match at home with Virginia Union and Glenville State, both from the CIAA on Saturday. The Marauders first play Virginia Union at 1 p.m. and then Glenville State at 5 p.m. These will be the last two home matches of the season for Millersville.
