Volleyball Takes Down Elizabethtown in Straight Sets

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. – The women's volleyball team is making a habit out of finishing teams in three sets. For the fifth time in six matches, Millersville came away with a win in three sets after defeating visiting Elizabethtown 3-0 on Wednesday night.

The Marauders seemed to peak in the second set of the match. They won the first and third sets by scores of 25-17 but won the middle set by the largest margin of the night, 25-14.

The defense for Millersville played well throughout the match, holding the Blue Jays to .051 hitting in the match, including a .000 attack percentage in each of the first two sets. The Marauders also blocked nine shots and dug out 30 more while forcing Elizabethtown into 19 hitting errors.

Offensively, the team was led by Alyssa Ott, who tallied a match-high nine kills with a .368 hitting percentage. Mary Paul and Katie Lesinski each added seven kills to the Millersville attack. Paul posted a .462 attack percentage, while tallying six total blocks (two solo) on the defensive end. Lesinski hit .286 on 14 swings.  Katie Pisano led the team with 20 assists, and Jess Franz chipped in 13 helpers.

The Marauders improved to 14-14 (6-8 PSAC East) on the season, marking the first time Millersville has been at .500 since Sept. 10. Wednesday's win also improves Millersville's home record on the season to 11-5 and the 14th win of the season overall is as many as the team had last year. That team finished 14-22.

The Blue Jays kicked off a four-match homestand for the Marauders, who face PSAC East foe Kutztown on Friday night at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Night for Millersville, and a win over the Golden Bears would be key as they are looking up at Kutztown in the PSAC East standings.
