
Pioneers’ Dragon Scores 20th Goal to Best Marauders

Long Island, N.Y. – No. 7 C. W. Post's Carlee Dragon became the nation's leading goal scorer in Division II field hockey with her two goals that included the game-winner in Wednesday's 3-2 defeat of No. 9 Millersville.
The Pioneers (9-6, 4-5 PSAC East) opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Dragon sent in the initial shot that was saved by Millersville's Sarah Dickinson. The rebound found its way to Lyn-Marie Wilson who put it past Dickinson for her third goal of the season to give C.W. Post a 1-0 lead.
Millersville (7-10, 1-8 PSAC East) responded five minutes later when freshman Sarah Bomberger sent in a shot that was deflected to freshman Katelyn Zapp. Zapp collected the ball and put it in the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the season knotting the game at 1-1.
The game stayed tied at 1-1 heading into the break with C.W. Post holding a 6-4 margin in shots.
The Marauders took their first lead of the game just five minutes into the second half. Junior Ashley Weber fed the ball to Kirsten Dively in front of the goal. Dively flipped the ball over the defense and into the goal to give Millersville a 2-1 lead.
Eleven minutes later, the Pioneers evened the game at 2-2. Dragon, scoring her first of two goals in the game, tipped in a pass from Wilson to the left side. It was Dragon's 19th goal of the season, tying her with Shippensburg's Kristina Taylor for the nation's most.
Dragon took over the crown of Division II leading goal scorer in the 63rd minute of play. Wilson, for the second time in the half, directed her pass toward Dragon to tap it in for the eventual game-winning goal. Dragon finished the game with two goals and one assist, while Wilson scored a goal with two assists.
C.W. Post outshot the Marauders 12-5 in the contest with Millersville's Dickinson making five saves in goal.
Millersville returns home Saturday, Oct. 22 to take on East Stroudsburg for its final game of the season. The game is slated for 1 p.m. The field hockey seniors will be recognized prior to the start of the game.
