Volleyball Claims Doubleheader at Cheyney

Cheyney, Pa. – The Marauders' volleyball team has taken an “all or nothing” approach to their matches of late with none of their last five matches going past the third set. Fortunately for Millersville, four of those five match sweeps have gone in their favor including a doubleheader sweep over PSAC East foe Cheyney Tuesday night on the road. The Marauders won both matches by identical 3-0 scores.

Defense was the key in both matches, as Millersville forced Cheyney into a -.105 attack percentage and 11 errors against only five kills in the first match. The Marauders won that match by set scores of 25-9, 25-6 and 25-8. Cheyney's offense fared worse in the second match as the Marauders stymied the Wolves attack to the tune of a -.415 hitting percentage with 29 errors. Millersville took that match with set scores of 25-10, 25-5 and 25-3.

Just because the defense for the Marauders led the way does not mean the offense was not also clicking on all cylinders. Millersville's well-balanced attack saw the team hit .356 in the first match and .300 in the second match. Allison Huss again led the Marauders, posting 17 total kills and 13 total digs in two matches.

Katie Lesinski did her part for visiting Millersville with 13 total kills, hitting a combined .440 and adding 10 total digs in both matches. Katie Pisano and Jessica Franz took turns setting up the attack, as Pisano posted 19 assists in the first match and Franz tallied 16 assists in the second match. Sue Caramanico added 27 total digs, playing in both matches.

The wins help the Marauders as they attempt to clinch a berth in PSAC East playoffs. The pair of victories improves Millersville's record to 13-14 this season but more importantly 6-8 in PSAC East play. The team returns home for tomorrow's match against Elizabethtown College at 7 p.m. The match is the first in a four-match homestand at Pucillo Gymnasium.
