Men's Tennis Slips in Season Opener

Results

Millersville, Pa. - Weather delayed the start of the Millersville men's tennis team for nearly two months. On Saturday at McComsey Tennis Courts, the Marauders lost their season opener to Harford Community College, 5-4.

Millersville (0-1) won four of the six doubles matches, but the difference came in doubles where the Marauders were swept. All three Millersville doubles teams had never played a competitive match together before as freshman #Jody Sambrick, Jr. teamed with Preetham Moras in the No. 1 flight and freshmen Kevin Tran and Tucker Mertz# teamed in the No. 3 flight.

Tran and Mertz were the closest to pulling off a win, losing 9-8 (11-9).

In singles, Moras lost a tough, three-set match to Phillipe DeFantos, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Sambrick reversed the Marauders fortunes with a 6-4, 7-5 win in the No. 2 spot. Henry Ben cruised 6-1, 6-3, Corey Garnier won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 and Mertz rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win in the No. 5 flight.

Millersville travels to La Salle Monday for a rescheduled match.
