Volleyball Blanks East Stroudsburg Behind Strong Efforts from Huss, Lesinski

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. – Millersville has been on a nine-match home stretch. Coming into Friday night's match, two more crucial PSAC East contests remained. The Marauders took care of business in the first match with a 3-0 win over East Stroudsburg that improved the team's record to 11-13 (4-7 PSAC East) this season.

There was a promising chance for the Warriors to take the first set of the match, as they jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. The Marauders rallied from the early deficit to win the first set 26-24. East Stroudsburg hung close in the second set after falling behind early, but Millersville took that set by their widest margin of the night, 25-21. The third set went back and forth until the Marauders put the Warriors away for good with a slim 28-26 victory on a service ace by Jess Franz.

Following up Wednesday's strong showing against Philadelphia, Allison Huss had another solid outing for Millersville. Huss finished a team-high 12 kills, hitting .229 on a team-high 35 swings while also posting nine digs, five block-assists and two service aces. Katie Lesinski helped out Huss on the offensive side, killing nine attacks on .238 hitting. Franz assisted on 19 kills and Katie Pisano added 16 assists.

The Marauders, however, won this match on the strength of their defense. The team held East Stroudsburg to a .146 attack percentage, blocking nine total attacks and digging out 46 more. Millersville did all this despite missing Rebecca Roman (133 kills and 65 blocks)--a big contributor on the front line. Huss and Mary Paul led the way with five blocks each and Alyssa Ott added four more. Sue Caramanico registered a team-high in digs with 16.

East Stroudsburg came to Pucillo Gymnasium looking to not only win their first match in the month of October but also their first set in a match this month. Millersville was not intent on letting that trend change. Millersville's 3-0 win improved their home record to a stellar 10-4 with Lock Haven visiting tomorrow at 1 p.m. Tomorrow's match will end a nine-match home string for the Marauders as they travel to Cheyney for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
