Marauders Complete Spiketacular Sweep

Millersville, Pa. – For the first time in six years the Millersville women's volleyball team opened its campaign with a 3-0 mark as the Marauders blanked all of their opponents at the Dutch Country Spiketacular Saturday in Pucillo Gymnasium. It also marked the first time since 1998 that the Black and Gold have won the tournament, and the first time in tournament history that Millersville defeated all of its opponents.

The Marauders opened the day with a 3-0 downing of Felician, winning by scores of 25-14, 25-16, 25-16. Opening with five-straight scores, Millersville set the pace for the match, not allowing the Golden Falcons to score consecutive points until the close of both the first and second sets.

Junior Allison Huss led all scorers with 11 kills, and Jesse Miller chipped in eight kills and three blocks in her first collegiate match. Katie Galuska and Kellie #Conahan# each collected double-digit digs--Galuska with 15 and Conahan with 10.

Freshmen Lauren Schmickle and Katie Pisano tallied 13 and 12 assists respectively. Jessica Frantz totaled 11 assists.

Felician registered negative attack percentages in every set. Jenna Matesic led the Golden Falcons with five kills and Nicole Degenhardt added 13 assists.

Millersville dictated the outcome of match two, defeating Bowie State 25-15, 25-10, 25-15. The Marauders held the Lady Bulldogs to a -.060 attack percentage and 11 kills overall.

The Marauder squad, which posted an attack percentage of .274, slammed a total of 14 service aces. Freshman Alyssa Ott notched five and Franz added three. Freshman Kelsey Gearhart knocked down six of Millersville's 33 kills.

JaTyra Heath led Bowie State with four kills and six digs. Kassondra Greis totaled seven assists and chipped in a service ace.

Millersville faced its stiffest challenge in match three, but still managed a victory over Franklin Pierce by scores of 25-21, 25-16, 25-18. The Marauders and Ravens went back and forth with points, but Millersville conceded the lead just twice throughout the entire match.

Franklin Pierce was limited to a .043 attack percentage, committing 22 errors. Chelsie Kohout tallied a match-high 26 digs and Lauren Miller chipped in 13.

For the Marauders, Franz registered a match-high 25 assists in addition to her eight digs and two blocks. Huss finished with 10 kills, bringing her total to 25 on the day. Ott, Miller and Devin Fortney each added five kills, and Sue Caramanico collected 14 digs while Galuska registered 10.

Millersville takes a short break until Friday, Sept. 10 when the team travels to North Carolina for the Mount Olive Tournament. The Marauders return home on Sept. 15 for their dual match home-opener against University of the Sciences of Philadelphia. The match is slated for 7 p.m. in Pucillo Gymnasium.
