Lock Haven, Pa. – Facing its first conference competition of the season, the Millersville women's volleyball team dropped four matches to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West members Clarion, Slippery Rock, Indiana (Pa.) and California (Pa.) Friday and Saturday afternoons at Lock Haven. The Marauders now sit at 4-8, 0-4 in the PSAC on the year.
Millersville hit a road block when it faced the Golden Eagles (10-1, 3-0 PSAC ) in its first match. The Marauders were defeated 3-0 by scores of 25-12, 25-16, 26-24.
Allison Huss led the offense with six kills and
Jessica Franz totaled 16 assists. Three Marauders collected double-digit digs.
Sue Caramanico tallied 25, followed by
Katie Galuska with 11 and Huss with 10.
The Marauders faced another tough match with Slippery Rock (5-7, 3-1 PSAC) later Friday, with neither team winning a set by more than seven points. Millersville won the first set 25-18, but The Rock rallied to take the next three sets 25-18, 25-23, 25-23.
Franz posted a career-high 41 of the squad's 45 assists against Slippery Rock. On the defensive end, Caramanico totaled a career-high 31 digs for Millersville. Galuska collected 25 digs,
Kellie Conahan came up with 14 and
Devin Fortney had 12. Fortney also recorded a team-high 12 kills in the four sets.
Millersville saw two additional hard-hitting crossover matches Saturday, starting with Indiana (Pa.). The Crimson Hawks (11-0, 3-0 PSAC) downed the Marauders 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-14.
Only four players totaled positive attack percentages for Millersville, and the team posted a mark of -.032 overall. Fortney led the Marauder offense with six kills, and Jesse Miller chipped in four. Franz put up 16 assists and Caramanico collected a team-high 18 digs.
The Marauders continued to struggle in their final crossover match of the weekend, with California (Pa.) handing over a 3-0 defeat by marks of 25-14, 25-12, 25-15.
Alyssa Ott recorded a team-high five kills in the match and Fortney,
Brittany Lease and
Mary Paul each chipped in four kills.
Katie Pisano tallied a career-high 17 assists, while Caramanico led the Marauder defense again with 14 digs. Galuska and
Kelsey Gearhart each totaled 11 digs.
Millersville returns to its home court on Friday, Sept. 24 for a PSAC match-up with East Stroudsburg. Action is slated for 7 p.m. in Pucillo Gymnasium.
